Series: The Healings of Jesus

  • The Healings of Jesus – 10

(John 21:25 AMPC) And there are also many other things which Jesus did. If they should be all recorded one by one [in detail], I suppose that even the world itself could not contain (have room for) the books that would be written.

There were innumerable healings and miracles performed by Jesus, but we do not have record of them all. We do have record of 19 of them and because the Holy Spirit instructed those men to record them for us, we should take the time to study them.

In studying these healings, we can learn that if we will do what the people did, we can receive what the people got. (Acts 10:34)

For this reason, we are looking at the details of each case.

Remember, pay attention to the details. Sometimes the key for you to be able to receive from Heaven is in the details.

In studying these healing miracles, we can learn how to receive healing for ourselves and learn how to minister healing to others.

This is a summary of the ministry of Jesus: He went about teaching, preaching, and healing.

(Matthew 4:23 NKJV) And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.

(Matthew 9:35 NKJV) Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

We want to emphasize what Jesus emphasized!

    These truths belong to us!

Preaching is a proclaiming of the Good News and is designed to draw the attention of people. Teaching brings people into knowledge and revelation of what belongs to us as believers.

    • We need to hear proper teaching on healing so that we can cooperate with the healing power of God.
    • What you hear, is going to be what you have faith to receive.
    • Jesus wants you to have a life of health and healing and to walk in it, you must know something about it and be skilled in what you know.
    • As you hear these things being taught, you can receive your healing!

(John 4:46-54 NKJV) So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum. (47) When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and implored Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. (48) Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.” (49) The nobleman said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!” (50) Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way. (51) And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, “Your son lives!” (52) Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” (53) So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And he himself believed, and his whole household. (54) This again is the second sign Jesus did when He had come out of Judea into Galilee.

(John 4:46-47 NKJV) So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum. (47) When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and implored Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.

This was the second miracle Jesus did in Galilee. The first miracle was at the wedding of Cana where Jesus turned the water into wine.

The Nobleman had enough faith to come to Jesus and ask Him to come down and heal his son. Perhaps he had heard of what had happened at the wedding earlier. Because he was a nobleman, maybe he was at the wedding that day.

We can assume that the son is of age where his father could pray or use his faith on his behalf and Jesus allowed it.

(John 4:48 NKJV) Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.”

(John 4:48 BBE) Then Jesus said to him, You will not have faith if you do not see signs and wonders.

The man had misplaced faith. His faith was based more on the spectacular happening instead of just faith in Jesus and the anointing that was on Him and His Word.

Brother Hagin used to say, “Many seek the spectacular and miss the supernatural.” This was the case with this man.

But notice Jesus did not move on from the man. He was endeavoring to get the man to move his faith to the correct place so that He could help him.

The man had his faith on Jesus coming to his house, much like a lucky charm or rabbit’s foot instead of the Word of God.

This would be like having religious objects placed in your home thinking that those things will work to protect you from something bad happening to you or your household.

(John 4:49-50 NKJV) The nobleman said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!” (50) Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way.

Jesus did not do anything that the man asked him to do. He did not come to his house and He did not even pray for the man’s son.

So, what did Jesus do? Jesus did what was best for this man’s level of faith. Jesus was essentially saying to the man, “I’ll give you something better than Me coming to your house. I’ll give you my words…”

He gives the man the Word of God to believe so that he could put his faith in the Word and not what he could see.

Jesus will always try to move people to believe the Word of God.

Jesus wanted the man to believe that his son was healed just because Jesus said so!

And it worked! The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and he went his way. He took Jesus at His word. This is the kind of faith that pleases God – faith that simply takes Him at His Word without any proof or evidence in the natural.

How do we know he believed it? He obeyed it and put action to what he believed. He walked off from Jesus as though it was done, that his son was healed.

The man had come a day’s journey to meet Jesus and therefore had a day’s journey to get back home. Jesus gave him words to hold on to while he was on his way back home.

God has given us His Word to hold on to during the time it takes from our request to the time when we receive the manifestation of our request. We can hold on to what God’s Word says instead of what the circumstances are saying to us.

The man had no way of knowing the condition of his son until he got home. He could know the words of Jesus and resume his walk.

(John 4:51-52 NKJV) And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, “Your son lives!” (52) Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better (KJV – began to amend). And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”

(John 4:52 NET) So he asked them the time when his condition began to improve, and they told him, “Yesterday at one o’clock in the afternoon the fever left him.”

This healing was not an instantaneous miracle. It was a process. The process was no less supernatural than an instantaneous miracle. Healing is healing!

    Faith Tweak:

(Mark 11:24 NKJV) Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

At the time that we pray, we are to believe that we receive the answer. Jesus is not asking us to believe that something has manifested at the time that we pray. He is asking us to believe that we receive the answer at the time that we pray.

Receiving and manifestation are two different things!

Receive (GREEK) – to actively take, to get hold of

Manifestation is something you can experience in the natural realm. Receiving is a spiritual act and is of faith in your spirit (heart).

Receiving is simply coming into agreement with what God’s Word says.

(Mark 11:24 NKJV Edited) Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them with your heart, and you will have them manifested in the natural.

Take the pressure of manifestation off you. That is God’s job.

Your faith is giving God permission to work and bring manifestation.

(Hebrews 4:3 TPT) For those of us who believe, faith activates the promise and we experience the realm of confident rest…

Faith brings about a rest of knowing that we have received the answer. You don’t have to wait to the manifestation comes to enter the rest. We begin to rest at the time we pray.

Performing that act of receiving is to say with your mouth, “I believe I receive…” It takes place with word not how you feel about the situation.

(John 4:53 NKJV) So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And he himself believed, and his whole household.

Healing is a doorway that brought blessing to this entire family. “Healing is God’s dinner bell…”

Notice Jesus did not physically walk in this man’s house and manifest Himself and yet the healing affected this man’s whole household. Jesus sent His Word into the man’s house which is Jesus coming to his house.

Just seeing Jesus is not an indicator that you would receive. There were people who “saw” Jesus all the time and yet they were not healed. No one who sees Jesus receives healing. People who believe receive healing.

(Psalms 107:20 NKJV) He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions.

  • The Healings of Jesus – 9

(Luke 14:1-6 NKJV) Now it happened, as He went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath, that they watched Him closely. (2) And behold, there was a certain man before Him who had dropsy. (3) And Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?” (4) But they kept silent. And He took him and healed him, and let him go. (5) Then He answered them, saying, “Which of you, having a donkey or an ox that has fallen into a pit, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?” (6) And they could not answer Him regarding these things.

(Luke 14:1 NKJV) Now it happened, as He went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath, that they watched Him closely.

Jesus was not invited to Sunday dinner for the purpose of enjoyment and fellowship. He was invited to an unfriendly setting so that they might set Him up and criticize what He was doing.

    Talk about a tense lunch!

(Luke 14:2 NKJV) And behold, there was a certain man before Him who had dropsy.

Could they have put this sick man right in front of Jesus so that they could catch Him doing something wrong?

Dropsy is a condition of excess fluid that builds up inside of limbs and cavities and the condition was obvious to those that looked at the individual. It causes abnormal swelling the body. The modern term is edema.

(Luke 14:3 NKJV) And Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”

Notice Jesus “answered” although no question had been asked of Him. He was answering the setup that had been placed before Him.

Again, they do not think that healing was holy enough to take place on the Sabbath Day. That is why He posed the question to them.

(GREEK) – “Is it right” or “is it outside of the law” or “is it a moral possibility” to heal this man?

Jesus is trying to discredit the wrong thinking of the religious leaders. Healing is a right flow because it comes from God Himself.

God is holy and He is a healer, therefore, healing is a holy thing to God.

(Luke 14:4 NKJV) But they kept silent. And He took him and healed him, and let him go.

They refused to answer His question and did not say a word in response to His question.

Although they did not say anything, their heart attitude had not changed and was obvious by their silence.

Jesus took the man and healed him. In the Greek, it says that Jesus took the man and laid hold on him and held him, possibly embracing him.

This shows the heart of Jesus and that He wanted to help the man and relieve him of this condition in his body. It did not matter who was watching Him or looking to criticize Him. This truly is the heart of God towards the ills of mankind.

(Luke 14:5 NKJV) Then He answered them, saying, “Which of you, having a donkey or an ox that has fallen into a pit, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?”

Jesus said that they would help and pull an animal out of a pit, and He would therefore pull a man out of a pit of sickness and disease.

He pointed out that they would have more compassion on an animal than they would this man that was there in their midst.

This was misplaced compassion on their part.

By the law, they were forbidden to work on the Sabbath Day. Jesus was saying to them, that for them to pull an animal out of a pit is more work than it was for Him to pull a man out of a pit on the Sabbath Day. In other words, healing this man was nothing to Him work wise. It was an easy thing for Jesus!

With Jesus not only is everything possible, but everything is also easy. It is no effort for Him to heal someone.

It is a work but not a hard work.

(Genesis 18:14 NKJV) Is anything too hard for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.”

(Jeremiah 32:17 NKJV) ‘Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You.

(Jeremiah 32:27 NKJV) “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?

(Luke 14:6 NKJV) And they could not answer Him regarding these things.

They could not argue with the results that Jesus produced.

Jesus was not proud of the fact that the leaders did not receive from Him. Rather, He would that they had changed their thinking and their hearts to receive from Him.

Jesus was trying to get their focus off their rules and onto the Word so they could be ministered to.

(7) So the scribes and Pharisees watched Him closely, whether He would heal on the Sabbath, that they might find an accusation against Him. (8) But He knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, “Arise and stand here.” And he arose and stood. (9) Then Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy?” (10) And when He had looked around at them all, He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he did so, and his hand was restored as whole as the other. (11) But they were filled with rage, and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.

(Luke 6:6 NKJV) Now it happened on another Sabbath, also, that He entered the synagogue and taught. And a man was there whose right hand was withered.

Jesus was teaching in the synagogue.

Ignorance is the place where Satan tries to keep people so that they are unable to receive from the Lord.

Ignorance does not mean that you are unable to learn; it means you are not taught.

Having knowledge of the Word and what belongs to us is the greatest defense you can have against the schemes of the enemy.

You cannot resist what you are unable to recognize.

(Hosea 4:6 NKJV) My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

The devil wants his work to go unnoticed. When he is recognized, then people might resist him.

(1 Peter 5:8-9 CEV) Be on your guard and stay awake. Your enemy, the devil, is like a roaring lion, sneaking around to find someone to attack. (9) But you must resist the devil and stay strong in your faith. You know that all over the world the Lord’s followers are suffering just as you are.

(James 4:7 TPT) So then, surrender to God. Stand up to the devil and resist him and he will turn and run away from you.

You are on the road to victory when you can recognize what the devil is up to.

Notice Jesus was teaching. Teaching not only brings light from the Word of God, but it is the cure for unbelief, doubt, and fear.

(Mark 6:6 AMPC) And He marveled because of their unbelief (their lack of faith in Him). And He went about among the surrounding villages and continued teaching. (NKJV – in a circuit)

There were probably others in that synagogue that needed healing.

Withered – (Greek) “xeros” – to dry up like a plant or tree

(Luke 6:6 BBE) And it came about, on another Sabbath, that he went into the Synagogue and was teaching there. And a man was there whose right hand was dead.

Other translations say: crippled, shriveled, paralyzed, weak and twisted, deformed, and shrunk and wasted.

Notice the Scripture says that this man’s right hand was withered. Could it be that the man was right-handed and not able to function normally, and this is what got Jesus’ attention?

Jesus is all about helping people. He would not want a man to not be able to function normally because of his condition. Jesus wanted to make the man whole.

There such a great flow of love through Jesus’ ministry of healing!

When the love of God sees a need, it wants to meet that need.

Religion does not give people that same regard.

(Luke 6:7 NKJV) So the scribes and Pharisees watched Him closely, whether He would heal on the Sabbath, that they might find an accusation against Him.

The religious leaders were not watching Jesus to see how he would bless the people and become a student of how He operated.

They were watching and listening to Jesus not looking for what was right, but what was wrong in His ministry.

How we approach a church service determines what God can do for us in that service.

No, we are not gullible and what we hear must be in line with the Word.

(1 John 2:27 NKJV) But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

Obviously, we see that these religious leaders did not receive from Jesus, and it was because they were being critical of Jesus’ ministry.

One of the reasons that these leaders had become critical of Jesus’ ministry is that He exposed by His actions to heal this man, their inability to help the man with tools that they had available. His ministry exposed their lack of fruit in their ministry.

(Luke 6:8 NKJV) But He knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, “Arise and stand here.” And he arose and stood.

How did He know their thoughts? Through the Word of Knowledge.

Jesus did not know the thoughts of everyone there only the ones that the Holy Spirit wanted Him to know.

Their thoughts were robbing them from receiving from God and Jesus did not want their thoughts to keep the man from receiving his healing.

Jesus was even willing to help the religious leaders with their wrong thinking, but they were not willing to receive from Him.

Jesus invited the man to come and stand with Him. Jesus did not step back to avoid the opposition that was there to oppose Him. He wanted to minister to the man and was not afraid of what they thought about Him.

He just wanted to carry out the will of God and help the people!

Jesus was a man of great strength and authority.

(Luke 6:9 NKJV) Then Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy?”

Jesus knew their thoughts but before He ministers to the man, He checks them on their wrong thinking.

This is what Jesus asked them: “Is it right on the Sabbath Day, to do something well and right for others or is it right to do something evil and mischievous? To make someone’s life whole or to destroy and cause someone to perish?”

In other words, “Are you about doing good today?” He was implying, “I am going to do something that was right and good.”

They were saying that healing was not holy enough for the Holy Day.

Anything that comes from God is holy!!!

(Luke 6:10 NKJV) And when He had looked around at them all, He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he did so, and his hand was restored as whole as the other.

I believe that Jesus slowly panned around the room and looked at all those leaders present. Can you imagine how awkward that long silent stare must have been for them?

Restored – Greek: put back in a former state, put back in its former condition.

    Whole – Greek: completely healthy.

Jesus told the man to do something he did not have the ability to do.

But when the man started in that direction, the power of God met him there and performed the miracle.

The power of God turned his inability into ability.

Notice the healing did not come first and then the command came.

No, the command preceded the healing.

(Luke 6:11 NKJV) But they were filled with rage, and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.

They should have rejoiced when the man got healed but instead, they got extremely mad about it.

Filled with rage: filled to the full

KJV – “madness” (Greek: anoia) – “lost their minds”, stupidity, They got mad because they stopped thinking clearly.

We would say: “they completely lost it…”

But notice none of that fazed Jesus at all. He could care less about what made them mad or not. He was more concerned about the man’s well-being.

In studying these healings, we can learn that if we will do what the people did, we can receive what the people got.

    • Jesus wants you to have a life of health and healing and to walk in that, you must know something and be skilled in it.
    • As you hear these things being taught, you can receive your healing!

(Mark 5:22-34 AMPC) (22) Then one of the rulers of the synagogue came up, Jairus by name; and seeing Him, he prostrated himself at His feet (23) And begged Him earnestly, saying, My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, so that she may be healed and live. (24) And Jesus went with him; and a great crowd kept following Him and pressed Him from all sides [so as almost to suffocate Him]. (25) And there was a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years, (26) And who had endured much suffering under [the hands of] many physicians and had spent all that she had, and was no better but instead grew worse. (27) She had heard the reports concerning Jesus, and she came up behind Him in the throng and touched His garment, (28) For she kept saying, If I only touch His garments, I shall be restored to health. (29) And immediately her flow of blood was dried up at the source, and [suddenly] she felt in her body that she was healed of her [distressing] ailment. (30) And Jesus, recognizing in Himself that the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around immediately in the crowd and said, Who touched My clothes? (31) And the disciples kept saying to Him, You see the crowd pressing hard around You from all sides, and You ask, Who touched Me? (32) Still He kept looking around to see her who had done it. (33) But the woman, knowing what had been done for her, though alarmed and frightened and trembling, fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. (34) And He said to her, Daughter, your faith (your trust and confidence in Me, springing from faith in God) has restored you to health. Go in (into) peace and be continually healed and freed from your [distressing bodily] disease.

(Mark 5:25 AMPC) And there was a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years,

This is a miracle within a miracle.

Under Jewish Law, anyone with her condition, was not allowed to be out in public. Jairus was one of the ones that could have sentenced her to death for being out in public. Understanding this, you can see why she would be nervous about giving her testimony in front of Jairus.

She is putting herself at risk to receive her healing.

(Mark 5:26 AMPC) And who had endured much suffering under [the hands of] many physicians and had spent all that she had, and was no better but instead grew worse.

Although she had this condition for twelve years, she kept seeking help.

She refused to get used to being sick. She was constantly pushing against this condition. She refused to accept it. It is easier to accept it than to push against it.

No matter how long you have had your condition, take a stand against it with the Word of God and faith.

She had been to many physicians, and this implied that at one time, she had much money. At some point, she had run out of money. So, if you think about it, it had taken her twelve years to run through her money and she had not gotten any better.

SICKNESS IS A THIEF! It had taken everything from her.

It had taken her time, money, relationships, and perhaps her occupation.

Going to the doctor was not the problem. It was that they could not give her any relief.

(Mark 5:27 AMPC) She had heard the reports concerning Jesus, and she came up behind Him in the throng and touched His garment,

She had heard the reports of Jesus being a healer and she chose to believe what she had heard. It matters what you hear, and it matters what you choose to believe about what you hear.

Someone had told her about their miracle. It matters that you share what Jesus has done for you. You never know who might be listening that needs or will need something from Jesus.

She was quick to believe. We need to be that way when it comes to the Word. (Not gullible)

She could have had a cynical approach to coming to Jesus because of her history in not being able to get help.

Don’t let your history turn you into a doubter. Don’t let past failures tell you that you can’t have victory today.

When she heard, she acted and sought Him out.

A large portion of what you receive from God is initiated by you and not by God.

Even in her weakened condition, faith got out of the house. She went totally against what she felt.

Faith will not just lay down and take what is going on, it will push against the current circumstances.

To receive from God, you will probably have to do something that is not convenient.

WHAT SHE BELIEVED WAS GREATER THAN WHAT SHE FELT!

Your miracle will begin when you choose to believe and act on what you believe.

    Natural things this woman did:

      • She got out of bed.
      • She got dressed.
      • She left the house.
      • She finds Jesus.

Believing something will cause you to do what others won’t do.

Some commentaries say that there were thousands of people that had gathered around Jesus. Yet despite this, she pressed her way to Him.

Oral Roberts said, “Everyday miracles are coming to you or passing by you.” Everyday God’s power is available to us!

The woman must have heard something about Jesus’ garment.

(Matthew 14:34-36 AMPC) And when they had crossed over to the other side, they went ashore at Gennesaret. (35) And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent around into all the surrounding country and brought to Him all who were sick (36) And begged Him to let them merely touch the fringe of His garment; and as many as touched it were perfectly restored. [Mat 9:20]

(Malachi 4:2 NKJV) But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings; And you shall go out And grow fat like stall-fed calves.

Wing – (Hebrew: kānāp̱): A common noun for a wing, the skirt or corner of a garment. It has the basic sense of to cover, an attached extremity.

(Acts 19:11-12 AMPC) And God did unusual and extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, (12) So that handkerchiefs or towels or aprons which had touched his skin were carried away and put upon the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them.

God so wants people healed, that He will allow cloths to contain the anointing and heal people.

Now, it takes more than just the healing anointing. It takes faith joined with that anointing to accomplish what the anointing is designed to do.

(Mark 5:28 AMPC) For she kept saying, If I only touch His garments, I shall be restored to health.

Notice she KEPT saying. She did not just say it once. She repeated it as the circumstances kept fighting her.

Who was she talking to? She spoke to herself and her circumstances. What you say to yourself is more important that what you say in public.

What did she say? She said what she believed.

Faith says what will happen before you see it happen.

Faith comes by hearing, but it is not released by hearing. Faith is released by saying and acting on what you believe.

(Mark 5:27-28 AMPC) She had heard the reports concerning Jesus, and she came up behind Him in the throng and touched His garment, (28) For (Because) she kept saying, If I only touch His garments, I shall be restored to health.

(Mark 5:29 AMPC) And immediately her flow of blood was dried up at the source, and [suddenly] she felt in her body that she was healed of her [distressing] ailment.

Notice the woman believed, she said what she believed, and she acted on what she believed BEFORE she felt something. It does not happen the other way around.

Sometimes the power of God is tangible as in this case but sometimes it is not tangible. So, what are you going to believe about the power of God? We don’t believe because we felt something. We believe something because the Word says it is working. You may FEEL your symptoms and not feel the healing power of God but what are you going to believe?

Example: If you go to the dentist and they take X-rays of your mouth. They lay that lead filled apron on your body and then they leave the room to take the x-ray. You hear something but you don’t feel anything, but why did they leave the room? Because power was present even though you did not feel it.

The power of God is present everywhere and all the time, but you must believe that it is there and give it faith and action in order to release what God wants that power to accomplish.

(Mark 5:30-31 AMPC) And Jesus, recognizing in Himself that the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around immediately in the crowd and said, Who touched My clothes? (31) And the disciples kept saying to Him, You see the crowd pressing hard around You from all sides, and You ask, Who touched Me?

The disciples thought that Jesus had asked an inappropriate question because the power was not felt or seen. But, to the one that released her faith, she experienced the results of that power being released.

People can be all around the power of God, but if they have not released their faith, they will never be able to receive the results.

IT WAS NOT TOUCHING JESUS THAT GOT THIS WOMAN HEALED. IT WAS RELEASING HER FAITH WHEN SHE TOUCHED HIM THAT GOT HER HEALED.

(Mark 5:32-34 AMPC) Still He kept looking around to see her who had done it.

If you protect your peace, you can maintain your healing. Stay in peace and out of fear and worry.

(Mark 5:21-24 AMPC) And when Jesus had recrossed in the boat to the other side, a great throng gathered about Him, and He was at the lakeshore. (22) Then one of the rulers of the synagogue came up, Jairus by name; and seeing Him, he prostrated himself at His feet (23) And begged Him earnestly, saying, My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, so that she may be healed and live. (24) And Jesus went with him; and a great crowd kept following Him and pressed Him from all sides [so as almost to suffocate Him].

(Mark 5:35-43 AMPC) While He was still speaking, there came some from the ruler’s house, who said [to Jairus], Your daughter has died. Why bother and distress the Teacher any further? (36) Overhearing but ignoring what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, Do not be seized with alarm and struck with fear; only keep on believing. (37) And He permitted no one to accompany Him except Peter and James and John the brother of James. (38) When they arrived at the house of the ruler of the synagogue, He looked [carefully and with understanding] at [the] tumult and the people weeping and wailing loudly. (39) And when He had gone in, He said to them, Why do you make an uproar and weep? The little girl is not dead but is sleeping. (40) And they laughed and jeered at Him. But He put them all out, and, taking the child’s father and mother and those who were with Him, He went in where the little girl was lying. (41) Gripping her [firmly] by the hand, He said to her, Talitha cumi–which translated is, Little girl, I say to you, arise [from the sleep of death]! (42) And instantly the girl got up and started walking around–for she was twelve years old. And they were utterly astonished and overcome with amazement. (43) And He strictly commanded and warned them that no one should know this, and He [expressly] told them to give her [something] to eat.

(Mark 5:22 AMPC) Then one of the rulers of the synagogue came up, Jairus by name; and seeing Him, he prostrated himself at His feet

Jesus was greatly opposed by the religious leaders of the day. Jairus must have been prominent there in his community because he is mentioned by name.

IN FULL PUBLIC VIEW, HE WORSHIPPED JESUS! This was huge because many could have seen him including the other religious leaders. But Jairus obviously did not care what the others were going to think about him. He puts his leadership and influence at risk.

Jairus was willing to lay down his career for his family to receive what they needed from God. This was a life-long occupation; not a temporary, part-time job.

Again, this is a posture of submission to Jesus and a posture to receive from Jesus!

A worshipper is usually teachable and submissive and willing to be led.

When you need a miracle, things that are less important will begin to take that position. He placed his family above his position and his prominence.

As the head of his family, it was his responsibility to lead them into a place of faith. Being the head of the household, you do whatever it takes to provide the best for your family and household.

(Mark 5:23 AMPC) And begged Him earnestly, saying, My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, so that she may be healed and live.

Jairus describes what it is that he is facing. This is not a lack of faith. This is ok, but always follow it up with what you believe.

It is not doubt and unbelief to state your need. It IS doubt and unbelief to stay focused on that need and not what you believe.

Jairus is saying what he believes and not what he sees. You have to say what it is you believe before you see it with your eyes. To keep emphasizing what you see will only prolong what you see or make it worse.

(Romans 10:10 NKJV) For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (manifestation)

Faith must be in two places: your heart and your mouth. (Mark 11:23)

Where the other religious leaders had rejected Jesus’ teaching, Jairus had grabbed onto it and was holding on to it.

(Mark 5:24 AMPC) And Jesus went with him; and a great crowd kept following Him and pressed Him from all sides [so as almost to suffocate Him].

Right believing and right speaking brought Jesus on the scene. He went with Jairus.

    Jesus always responds to faith!!

(Mark 5:35 AMPC) While He was still speaking, there came some from the ruler’s house, who said [to Jairus], Your daughter has died. Why bother and distress the Teacher any further?

In the delivery of this bad news, the religious people felt like Jesus was no longer needed.

Faith is never panicked or rushed.

Jesus is not anxious or in a hurry. (He stopped to minister to the woman that was healed of the issue of blood. He wanted to hear the woman’s testimony.)

Perhaps, the woman’s testimony fortified Jairus’ faith at that time. Jesus could have stopped here just for that purpose too.

(Mark 5:36 AMPC) Overhearing but ignoring what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, Do not be seized with alarm and struck with fear; only keep on believing.

Jesus wasn’t disturbed at all by the news delivered to Jairus. Matter of fact, He just ignored the news. This is His answer to news that was contrary to what He knew He was going to do.

The problem had escalated to the point where the daughter was now dead. We see the example of what to do when this happens. Simply do not respond but keep believing what the Word says.

You will have opportunities to receive news of an escalation of your situation, but when you hear it, just ignore it and keep believing.

Notice, Jesus did not berate the messenger. He addressed the message, not the messenger by saying, “Do not be seized with alarm and struck with fear.” The opportunity to feel panic and alarm comes to all of us. Just because you feel it at that moment, don’t give in to that feeling. Jesus because you feel the fear, does not mean that the Word is not working, and faith is not present.

(Psalms 23:5 NKJV) You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies…

The enemy might be present, but just because he is present does not men you are not winning, and the Word is not working.

Jesus told Jairus how to handle fear: “don’t let it in”.

The difference between winning and losing is to not yield to fear and keep on believing what you already released your faith to receive (Mark 5:23).

Jesus told Jairus to keep believing the same thing he started with even when the contrary news came to them. Don’t change what you believe just because your circumstances have changed.

The miracle depended more on what Jairus believed than what Jesus believed because it was Jairus’ faith that was going to give Jesus the permission to come into his house and raise his daughter up.

When someone brings a bad report, it matters more about what you believe and say than what they believe and say.

Notice Jesus did not try and straighten out what the messenger said in his “bad confession”. He ignored it. We don’t have to try and straighten out everyone else’s words, just what we are speaking.

(Mark 5:37 NKJV) And He permitted no one to follow Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James.

Jesus is life but it mattered who He let into that environment. Not everyone in the crowd is in faith. He knew who would be in faith with Him and that is who He wanted in the house.

Jesus takes Peter, James, and John with Him. He does not have favorites. He is training them based on their assignments for when He is gone.

When you are advancing, you must know who will be in faith and advance with you!

(Mark 5:38 AMPC) When they arrived at the house of the ruler of the synagogue, He looked [carefully and with understanding] at [the] tumult and the people weeping and wailing loudly.

(Mark 5:39 AMPC) And when He had gone in, He said to them, Why do you make an uproar and weep? The little girl is not dead but is sleeping.

Jesus spoke His faith and what the end result was going to be. This was not a hard thing to God at all. It was a simple to Him as waking someone up from natural sleep.

(Mark 5:40 AMPC) And they laughed and jeered at Him. But He put them all out, and, taking the child’s father and mother and those who were with Him, He went in where the little girl was lying.

How quickly they can change their emotions!

If you are not going to believe, there are things that you just won’t be able to see. Only those who believe will see Him move.

Jesus took those with authority over this little girl into the room with Him.

(Mark 5:41 AMPC) Gripping her [firmly] by the hand, He said to her, Talitha cumi–which translated is, Little girl, I say to you, arise [from the sleep of death]!

Jesus did not rebuke a devil. He spoke life!

(Mark 5:42 AMPC) And instantly the girl got up and started walking around–for she was twelve years old. And they were utterly astonished and overcome with amazement.

The daughter was raised up AND healed at that moment. If she had not been healed, she would have died again.

(Mark 5:43 AMPC) And He strictly commanded and warned them that no one should know this, and He [expressly] told them to give her [something] to eat.

    • As you hear these things being taught, you can receive your healing!

Remember the verse we read last week:

(Mark 7:37 AMPC) And they were overwhelmingly astonished, saying, He has done everything excellently (commendably and nobly)! He even makes the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak!

(Mark 7:36-37 MSG) Jesus urged them to keep it quiet, but they talked it up all the more, (37) beside themselves with excitement. “He’s done it all and done it well. He gives hearing to the deaf, speech to the speechless.”

(Mark 7:37 BBE) And they were overcome with wonder, saying, He has done all things well: he even gives back the power of hearing and the power of talking to those who have been without them.

    • Jesus was skillful in ministering healing to people. God wants us to be skillful in receiving and ministering healing.

(Mark 1:39-45 NKJV) And He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out demons. (40) Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” (41) Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” (42) As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed. (43) And He strictly warned him and sent him away at once, (44) and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing those things which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.” (45) However, he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the matter, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter the city, but was outside in deserted places; and they came to Him from every direction.

(Mark 1:39 NKJV) And He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out demons.

Isn’t it interesting where the demon possessed people were? People came to the synagogue to get help and to be set free. People ought to be able to get set free at church.

(Mark 1:40 NKJV) Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.”

This was not inside of the synagogue because according to the law, this leper would not have been allowed to enter the synagogue.

Lepers were no allowed to be out in society much less approach an individual like Jesus in public.

Doing this, he took his life into his own hands.

Notice the man came and found Jesus. He was not sitting at home waiting for Jesus to find him. A lot of people are waiting for someone to bring them something, but this man did not.

Nine out of ten times, what you receive from God is initiated by you and not initiated by God. If you want to receive something from God, you must take some steps of faith. That is what we mean when we say you must initiate it.

If you need help, don’t wait for people to seek you out. If you are part of a local church and you get sick, call them. Don’t sit at home and get offended that no one knew that you were sick.

(James 5:14 NKJV) Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

Notice the posture of the leper when he approached Jesus: a posture of humility and worship. This was a proper position to receive from Jesus. The man must have heard and/or seen something about Jesus.

Worship brings the anointing because worship brings the Presence of God.

God always responds to a heart of worship.

Notice the man obviously knew that Jesus COULD heal him. In other words, there was not a question in the man’s heart about Jesus’ ABILITY. BUT there was a question if Jesus was willing to heal him.

Did you know this is the struggle in most people’s hearts where receiving from God is concerned? Most will not question if God is ABLE to heal but they question if He is WILLING to heal them.

This man lacked full knowledge of Jesus, but he did come with what he had. Jesus met the man where he was.

(Mark 1:41 NKJV) Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.”

Jesus was moved with compassion which motivated Him to minister to the man.

Compassion – moved in the inward parts, to feel viscerally.

Healing is a flow of compassion. We are to carry that same compassion which comes from spending time in the Presence of God.

The more you are with Him, the more you take on His flow.

Spending time with God will cause what motivates Him to motivate you.

Compassion always leads you to action.

Jesus corrected the man’s theology with three words, “I am willing…”

Jesus did not leave this man’s doctrine lacking. Out of His goodness, He corrected the man’s theology. Why? Because the man was worshipping Him. Worshipping is a teachable place and posture. It requires humility.

You cannot receive from God on just any version of faith. Jesus brought him to Bible faith.

Jesus not only corrected the man’s theology but every man’s theology. We now know by what Jesus said that it is His will for men to be healed.

(Mark 1:42 NKJV) As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed.

Jesus touched the man out of compassion, but He spoke out of authority and power.

Leprosy heard the words that Jesus spoke and left the man.

Sickness and disease will hear your words too! So will things that stand in your way and are part of what Jesus has redeemed you from.

(Mark 11:23 NKJV) For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

(Mark 1:43-44 NKJV) And He strictly warned him and sent him away at once, (44) and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing those things which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

According to the Levitical Law, the Priest was the one who cast the man out of society because of leprosy so it was only the Priest who could let this man back into society.

Jesus still abided within the law in this man’s healing. Also, the Priest was going to see for himself that Jesus was a healer.

(Mark 1:45 NKJV) However, he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the matter, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter the city, but was outside in deserted places; and they came to Him from every direction.

The impact of one man’s testimony moved a city and an entire region to pursue Jesus.

When you receive healing, it can lead others to Jesus to receive from Him. Tell your testimony!

(Mark 1:45 TPT) But no sooner did the man leave than he began to proclaim his healing publicly and spread the story everywhere of his healing. Jesus’ growing fame prevented him from entering the villages openly, which forced him to remain in isolated places. Even so, a steady stream of people flocked to him from everywhere.
