The Healings of Jesus – Part 20
The HEALING OF THE DEAF AND DUMB BOY

(John 21:25 AMPC) And there are also many other things which Jesus did. If they should be all recorded one by one [in detail], I suppose that even the world itself could not contain (have room for) the books that would be written.

There were innumerable healings and miracles performed by Jesus, but we do not have record of them all. We do have record of 19 of them and because the Holy Spirit instructed those men to record them for us, we should take the time to study them.

In studying these healings, we can learn that if we will do what the people did, we can receive what the people got. (Acts 10:34)

For this reason, we are looking at the details of each case.

(Acts 10:38 AMPC) How God anointed and consecrated Jesus of Nazareth with the [Holy] Spirit and with strength and ability and power; how He went about doing good and, in particular, curing all who were harassed and oppressed by [the power of] the devil, for God was with Him.

(Acts 10:38 MSG) Then Jesus arrived from Nazareth, anointed by God with the Holy Spirit, ready for action. He went through the country helping people and healing everyone who was beaten down by the Devil. He was able to do all this because God was with him.

(Acts 10:38 Williams) how God consecrated Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and then He went about doing good and curing all who were overpowered by the devil, because God was with Him.

Remember, pay attention to the details. Sometimes the key for you to be able to receive from Heaven is in the details.

In studying these healing miracles, we can learn how to receive healing for ourselves and learn how to minister healing to others.

This is a summary of the ministry of Jesus: He went about teaching, preaching, and healing.

(Matthew 4:23 NKJV) And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.

(Matthew 9:35 NKJV) Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

We want to emphasize what Jesus emphasized!

    These truths belong to us!

Preaching is a proclaiming of the Good News and is designed to draw the attention of people. Teaching brings people into knowledge and revelation of what belongs to us as believers.

    • We need to hear proper teaching on healing so that we can cooperate with the healing power of God.
    • What you hear, is going to be what you have faith to receive.
    • Jesus wants you to have a life of health and healing and for you to walk in it, you must know something about it and be skilled in what you know.
    • In teaching these things, we are doing the works of Jesus, so receive your healing!
    • As you hear these things being taught, you can receive your healing!

(Mark 9:17-18 NKJV)  Then one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit.  (18)  And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.”

(Mark 6:7,12-13 NKJV)  And He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits.  (12)  So they went out and preached that people should repent.  (13)  And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them.

(Luke 10:17 NKJV)  Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”

The disciples did not have an ability issue in their failure to cast out the spirit; but they had a faith issue.

You can have power present but if faith is not mixed with it, the power cannot work.

Faith ignites the power of God.

(Mark 9:19 NKJV)  He answered him and said, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.”

Jesus rebuked them by saying, “How long shall I bear with you?”.

They were trained in how to minister but in spite of their training, they let it slip. In the Greek language, Jesus asked them, “How long am I going to have to put up with your unbelief?”

(Mark 9:19 BBE)  And he said to them in answer, O generation without faith, how long will I have to be with you? how long will I put up with you? let him come to me.

(Mark 9:19 MSG)  Jesus said, “What a generation! No sense of God! How many times do I have to go over these things? How much longer do I have to put up with this? Bring the boy here.”

Daily they had seen Jesus use His faith and His words to work on people’s behalf and even they had experienced some success, yet they seemed to lose their progress that they had made.

They regressed in faith. Faith is either increasing or diminishing based on what we do.

(Mark 9:19-20 NKJV)  He answered him and said, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.”  (20)  Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth.

Jesus told the man to bring the boy to Jesus. He wanted to help the people. That was His desire.

When the anointing gets close to someone who is harassed by the devil or a demon, the demon knows that help is close.

The spirit began to show out and cause a scene hoping to distract the people and Jesus from what he was really up to. But notice he could not distract Jesus.

JESUS WAS NOT MOVED BY WHAT HE SAW!!!

(Mark 9:21-22 NKJV)  So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.  (22)  And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

Notice the spirit tried to destroy the boy. (John 10:10)

This has been going on for a long time. We do not know how old the boy was, but we can assume that this has been happening for some time.

Notice, the father then placed the responsibility of the boy being set free on Jesus by saying, “But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

(Mark 9:23 NKJV)  Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

(Mark 9:23 AMPC)  And Jesus said, [You say to Me], If You can do anything? [Why,] all things can be (are possible) to him who believes!

Jesus was telling the man that there is no question about My ability. The real question is, “Do you believe?”

There are Christians that want to put the responsibility of their healing on the ability of God or even on the will of God but Jesus will put that responsibility right back on them.

The question is, “What can you believe Me to do?”

(Mark 9:24 NKJV)  Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”

(Mark 9:24 NLT)  The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!”

The father was actually saying, “I do believe but help me with my thoughts of doubt…”

You can have faith working in your heart and have thoughts of doubt in your mind.

(Mark 11:23 NKJV)  For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

Jesus said that you can have faith in your heart and as long as you don’t let doubt get into your heart, your faith will still work.

Faith is a choice not a feeling!

What do you do with the thoughts of doubt? You answer them. Say what the Word says that counter acts those thoughts.

(Mark 9:25 NKJV)  When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!”

(Mark 9:25 ERV)  Jesus saw that all the people were running there to see what was happening. So he spoke to the evil spirit. He said, “You evil spirit that makes this boy deaf and stops him from talking—I command you to come out of him and never enter him again!”

Jesus was aware that the people were not gathering to join their faith in this miracle. They were just coming to look and see. This could have been a great distraction to the father and actually could have caused Jesus to lose control of the environment.

(Mark 9:26-27 NKJV)  Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.”  (27)  But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.

The spirit put on one more show before it came out. Again, it was trying to take the attention off Jesus and with some it worked.

Again, Jesus was not moved by this at all.

(Mark 9:28-29 NKJV)  And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”  (29)  So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”

Demonic spirits do not come out as a result of fasting and prayer. They come out as a result of faith in the Name of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Fasting and prayer addresses the doubt and unbelief. It causes one to become more spiritually aware and sensitive to the Holy Spirit.

(Mark 9:29 TLB)  Jesus replied, “Cases like this require prayer.”

Preacher’s Commentary: “When the father brings his demon-possessed son to the disciples for healing, they fail in the face of a “critical incident” because they lack the resources of spiritual power that are sustained only through constant prayer. The practice of the presence of God, as recommended by Brother Lawrence, is the discipline that makes effective disciples in the time of crisis.”

  • The Healings of Jesus – 19

The Healings of Jesus – Part 19
    The MADMAN OF GADaRA

(John 21:25 AMPC) And there are also many other things which Jesus did. If they should be all recorded one by one [in detail], I suppose that even the world itself could not contain (have room for) the books that would be written.

    • As you hear these things being taught, you can receive your healing!

Mark 5:1-17 NKJV Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes. (2) And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, (3) who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains, (4) because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. (5) And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones. (6) When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him. (7) And he cried out with a loud voice and said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God that You do not torment me.” (8) For He said to him, “Come out of the man, unclean spirit!” (9) Then He asked him, “What is your name?” And he answered, saying, “My name is Legion; for we are many.” (10) Also he begged Him earnestly that He would not send them out of the country. (11) Now a large herd of swine was feeding there near the mountains. (12) So all the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us to the swine, that we may enter them.” (13) And at once Jesus gave them permission. Then the unclean spirits went out and entered the swine (there were about two thousand); and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and drowned in the sea. (14) So those who fed the swine fled, and they told it in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that had happened. (15) Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. (16) And those who saw it told them how it happened to him who had been demon-possessed, and about the swine. (17) Then they began to plead with Him to depart from their region.

Not only is Jesus the Healer for the body, He is the deliverer for the mind.

Mark 5:1-2 NKJV Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes. (2) And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

Notice the Scripture says that this was an “unclean spirit” that had taken control of the man. The Greek could also be translated “impure”. These spirits are polluted and they seek to pollute mankind.

No demon spirit is “clean”. The reason the Scripture says it this was is so that there would be a clear difference between a demon spirit and a Godly spirit.

Mark 5:3-4 NKJV who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains, (4) because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him.

This man had a supernatural strength that was from the demon in him. The Scripture says, “…that no man could tame him.” Jesus did not come on the scene to tame the demon spirit, He came to cast it out.

Mark 5:5 NKJV And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones.

He was dwelling in uninhabited places – the mountains and the tombs.

This man was living in a place where men ought not to live – in the graveyard.

When the devil gets his way with people, he seeks to degrade people to such a low state as an insult to God. He was more like an animal than he was a man.

The devil will also push people to separate themselves from society and from other people. He seeks to isolate people so he can torment them. We were not created for isolation. It is OK to seek to be alone for a season for solitude but that is different from being “driven” into isolation.

He was crying and cutting himself. He is so tormented that he cries out and seeks to damage himself.

Don’t let the devil erase human dignity from you! Resist him when he is pressuring you in this way.

This man had no relief night and day. No peace of mind. He had no hope.

In the natural, it looked like this man was beyond all help. But when it looks like there is no help, there is One Who can bring help!

Jesus not only paid the price for you to be Born Again, a healed body, but He also paid the price for you to have a peace and calm mind.

2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

2 Timothy 1:7 AMPC For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.

Use your faith for your sound mind just like you do for anything else.

Mark 5:6-8 NKJV When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him. (7) And he cried out with a loud voice and said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God that You do not torment me.” (8) For He said to him, “Come out of the man, unclean spirit!”

The man did the running TOWARDS Jesus telling us that the man sensed that this Man could be his help. Demons will never run TOWARDS Jesus, they always seek to hide from Him.

Also, the demon was not worshipping Jesus in sense that we worship Him, the Greek simply says that the man fell prostrate before Him.

Notice this in verse 7, that the man needed no introduction to Jesus because this is not the man speaking per se, it is the demon speaking through the man who knew Who Jesus was. The man himself would not have known Who Jesus is.

The man is running to Jesus and while he is on the way, Jesus commanded the spirit to come out of the man.

When you walk in your authority, demon spirits recognize that authority just like they did when Jesus walked upon the earth.

Notice the demon is tormenting the man, but when Jesus shows up, he doesn’t want to be the one getting tormented. Demons can dish out torment, but they certainly take torment.

How could Jesus torment the demon? By Jesus telling him he has to come out of the man. Demons do not have a body and therefore they desire to inhabit the bodies of unknowing people to execute their plans in the earth. They seek to find someone who will yield themselves to them so they can get expression. They are tormented unless they can express themselves.

Mark 5:9 NKJV Then He asked him, “What is your name?” And he answered, saying, “My name is Legion; for we are many.”

This demon spirit was in command over many other spirits. In the Roman army a legion would average beginning at 1200 and up.

Mark 5:10-12 NKJV Also he begged Him earnestly that He would not send them out of the country. (11) Now a large herd of swine was feeding there near the mountains. (12) So all the demons begged Him, saying, “Send us to the swine, that we may enter them.”

Why didn’t Jesus cast the demons into the abyss and rid the world of their influence? Because it was not time. There is a time when all demons will be case into the abyss, but that time has not yet come.

Matthew 8:29 NKJV And suddenly they cried out, saying, “What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?”

The demons know there is a time coming but they do not when that time is. Only the God the Father knows when that time is.

Luke 8:31 NKJV And they begged Him that He would not command them to go out into the abyss.

Jesus was not extending mercy to the demons by allowing them to go into the swine; it just wasn’t time yet for them to be cast into the abyss.

They did not want Jesus to send them out of the country. Why? Because they had worked very hard to affect that region as much as they could. All of their effort was going to be hindered and stopped by One Man with authority and the anointing.

You can stop the devil’s operation in your life any time you choose with the Word of God and the Name of Jesus. But, to minister deliverance to someone else, there must be the power of the anointing present by the Holy Spirit.

Mark 5:13 NKJV And at once Jesus gave them permission. Then the unclean spirits went out and entered the swine (there were about two thousand); and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and drowned in the sea.

Notice this: if a man’s spirit can contain at least two thousand demons, how much more can a Born Again human spirit contain of God’s power by the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 3:19 AMPC [That you may really come] to know [practically, through experience for yourselves] the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge [without experience]; that you may be filled [through all your being] unto all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]!

Mark 5:14-15 NKJV So those who fed the swine fled, and they told it in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that had happened. (15) Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.

The people were once afraid of the man who was demon possessed, but now they are afraid of the Man that set him free.

Mark 5:16-17 NKJV And those who saw it told them how it happened to him who had been demon-possessed, and about the swine. (17) Then they began to plead with Him to depart from their region.

Notice how wrong this scene is. The people wanted the Deliverer to leave their area.

Mark 5:18-20 NKJV And when He got into the boat, he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him. (19) However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” (20) And he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him; and all marveled.

This is an instance of where Jesus instructed the man to go and proclaim what Jesus had for him. Jesus made him a preacher.

He went through the entire region of those ten cities and declared what Jesus had done for him. They might have known his reputation before he was delivered but now they could see him free and in his right mind.

  • The Healings of Jesus – 18

The Healings of Jesus – Part 18
    The Healing of a Multitude

(John 21:25 AMPC) And there are also many other things which Jesus did. If they should be all recorded one by one [in detail], I suppose that even the world itself could not contain (have room for) the books that would be written.

(Mark 6:53-56 NKJV)  When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret and anchored there.  (54)  And when they came out of the boat, immediately the people recognized Him,  (55)  ran through that whole surrounding region, and began to carry about on beds those who were sick to wherever they heard He was.  (56)  Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well.

This passage does not highlight one specific case of healing but a multitude of healings that occurred. But there are things in this that we can see and glean from the Word.

(Mark 6:53 NKJV)  When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret and anchored there.

(Luke 5:1 NKJV)  So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret,

We see in this passage that the people of Gennesaret pressed upon Jesus to hear the Word.

(Luke 5:1 BBE)  Now it came about that while the people came pushing to be near him, and to have knowledge of the word of God…

(Luke 5:1 MSG)  Once when he was standing on the shore of Lake Gennesaret, the crowd was pushing in on him to better hear the Word of God.

Notice at this time that Jesus was in Gennesaret, the people were not there for healing but for hearing.

The Word of God put faith, expectation, and action into the hearts of the people.

This shows us the spiritual hunger of these people. It also shows us that the people had a regard for the Word of God.

When you have an honor and respect for the Word of God, manifestation is not far from you.

Spiritual hunger is key to receiving what you need from God.

There are people that come to the dinner table and are not very hungry and there are those that come to the dinner table and are starving. What is the difference? The way they regard the dinner table.

When you come to the table and you are not very hungry or you do not care for the things that are prepared on the table, you will let things pass you by. People that are hungry do not let things pass them by. They are taking whatever is available to them.

It matters how you approach the Word of God!

This community had a regard for Jesus and the Word that He preached and taught.

Your healing is connected to your hearing! Your miracle is connected to your hearing!

Many times, people want what the Word has but they don’t want to take the time to hear the Word.

You position yourself to receive from God by hearing the Word of God. Why? Because faith comes, is fed, and increases by hearing the Word of God.

God desires for everyone who is sick to be healed and well BUT we are going to receive our healing the way that He prescribes. In other words, we need to learn how He operates so that we can co-operate with Him.

    These things are not automatic!!!

Cooperate – (Dictionary) Work jointly with someone toward the same end or result

(Deuteronomy 30:15 NLT)  “Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between life and death, between prosperity and disaster.

(Deuteronomy 30:19-20 NLT)  “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!  (20)  You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the LORD, you will live long in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

God does not adjust Himself or re-write His Word to accommodate us. We must adjust our lives, our heart, and our belief to accommodate Him and to receive from Him. We come into line with His Word.

(Luke 4:16-30 NKJV)  So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.  (17)  And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:  (18)  “THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE HAS ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR; HE HAS SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED, TO PROCLAIM LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET AT LIBERTY THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED;  (19)  TO PROCLAIM THE ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD.”  (20)  Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him.  (21)  And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”  (22)  So all bore witness to Him, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, “Is this not Joseph’s son?”  (23)  He said to them, “You will surely say this proverb to Me, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in Your country.’ ”  (24)  Then He said, “Assuredly, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own country.  (25)  But I tell you truly, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a great famine throughout all the land;  (26)  but to none of them was Elijah sent except to Zarephath, in the region of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.  (27)  And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian.”  (28)  So all those in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,  (29)  and rose up and thrust Him out of the city; and they led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw Him down over the cliff.  (30)  Then passing through the midst of them, He went His way.

What happened in Nazareth? Jesus went there and proclaimed that He was anointed to minister to them. They could have allowed that Word to produce faith in them and then received whatever it was that they needed. But because they rejected what He preached and rejected Him, they received nothing except a few people with minor ailments were healed.

They did not cooperate with the power of God that was present that day in the Lord Jesus and receive their need met.

The Word of God must be a part of our daily life, not just our church life.

The Word is the container of the faith. When you partake of what the Word holds, you get the contents too. (Can of beans from the grocery store.) When you get the Word, you get the faith.

Notice the people of Gennesaret did not come just for healing. They came to hear the Word taught by Jesus and therefore they were ready to receive their healing.

(Mark 6:54-55 NKJV)  And when they came out of the boat, immediately the people recognized Him,  (55)  ran through that whole surrounding region, and began to carry about on beds those who were sick to wherever they heard He was.

Immediately the people recognized Him. This says that they remembered Him from when He taught there. They responded to what they knew about Jesus.

He must have taught about healing there because the Word says that they went to get the sick so they could be healed.

They brought the sick to Jesus because they knew that help could be found with Jesus.

Notice in verse 55, they RAN. They responded as someone that expected something. People that are not expecting do not run!

(Mark 11:24 KJV)  Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Notice this verse does not start out talking about faith or prayer. The order of this verse is:

      1. Desire
      2. Pray
      3. Believe or Faith
      4. Receive

Sometimes we don’t have a faith problem. Sometimes we have a desire problem. We need to be not OK with not receiving.

We cannot be passive where receiving from God is concerned.

    How big is your desire?

(Matthew 11:12 AMPC)  And from the days of John the Baptist until the present time, the kingdom of heaven has endured violent assault, and violent men seize it by force [as a precious prize–a share in the heavenly kingdom is sought with most ardent zeal and intense exertion].

Violent – those making the intense effort

Take it by force – the ones actually entering in

(Matthew 11:12 TPT)  From the moment John stepped onto the scene until now, the realm of heaven’s kingdom is bursting forth, and passionate people have taken hold of its power.

The people of Gennesaret were aggressive in desiring to receive from Jesus.

Don’t be passive and halfhearted towards receiving from God. Why? Because your enemy is wholehearted in trying to keep you from receiving from God.

You are going to have to desire your victory more than the enemy desires your defeat.

    How does faith act?

      • Study the Word.
      • Get to church.
      • Speak the Word over your situation.
      • Make it a lifestyle.
      • Worship God for your healing.
      • You do everything you can.

(Mark 6:56 NKJV) Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well.

  • The Healings of Jesus – 17

The Healings of Jesus – Part 17
    The Canaanite Woman

(Matthew 15:21-28 NKJV)  Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon.  (22)  And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.”  (23)  But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us.”  (24)  But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”  (25)  Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”  (26)  But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”  (27)  And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”  (28)  Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

(Matthew 15:21 NKJV) Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon.

Tyre and Sidon were regions where the Syrian-Phoenician Gentiles lived and they did not have a covenant with God.

Jews were the only ones that had a covenant with God at that time.

Notice Jesus went where people were that did not have a covenant with God. This is telling them and us, that He wanted to reach those people.

He is showing them that soon, they would not be left without a covenant. Through Him they were going to be able to be participants in a covenant with God.

(Matthew 15:22 NKJV)  And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.”

A woman from that region came to Him. She was a Gentile and without a covenant relationship with God. She has no promise that anything from God belongs to her.

But she doesn’t wait for a promise. She has a big need.

The Canaanites, being Gentiles, did not co-mingle with the Jews. They were considered unclean.

    She has heard about Jesus!

(Mark 7:25 NKJV) For a woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit heard about Him, and she came and fell at His feet.

She must have heard that He was a deliverer because that is what she had faith to receive for her daughter.

It matters what you hear about Jesus! What you hear about Jesus determines what you are able to believe Him to do in your life.

(John 10:10 NKJV) The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

There are two people who are coming after you or have come for you. The devil and Jesus.

Anything that comes to steal, kill, and destroy is from the devil and anything that brings life is from God.

God’s way of teaching is though His Word.

Some question miracles. Don’t doubt today what you might need tomorrow!

What was going on in this woman’s home that opened the door for her little girl to get a devil? If wrong things are permitted in a home, then the devil has an inroad, access, into your household.

In verse 22, she cries out for mercy for herself. Deliverance is a flow of mercy from God.

God wants to stop the disruption that the devil can bring on a household.

You cannot have the devil in your household and have peace.

She cries out to the Son of David. She is referring to what the Jews called Jesus as the Messiah. She must have thought this is what Jesus needed or wanted to hear because she had heard the Jews call Him that.

But Jesus does not want you to address Him based on what you have heard others call Him. These are borrowed words.

He wants to hear what you believe in your own heart. That is why it is so important to have faith for yourself and not just parrot what you have heard someone else say.

(Matthew 15:23 NKJV) But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us.”

When she gets no response from Jesus, she moves on to the disciples and begins to call out to them.

    At least she is persistent.

This persistence is a feature of faith!

Jesus is not looking to send anyone away who comes to Him!

His desire is to bring her to a place of right thinking and right believing.

(Matthew 15:24 NKJV) But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

This is a true response. Jesus first assignment was to the Jewish people, but His assignment would expand later, after the Cross.

(Matthew 15:25 NKJV) Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”

She came back to Jesus a second time. She approached Him without rehearsed, borrowed words, but with an attitude of worship towards Him from her own heart.

She cuts through all the extra fluff and simply said, “Lord, help me.”

Sometimes you are going to have to cut through all the religious talk and the borrowed words and get very real, simple, and plain with the Lord. Why? Because that is really what is in your heart and that is what Jesus wants.

When you don’t know what else to say to the Lord, simply ask Him for help.

Notice that she came and worshipped Him SAYING something.

You cannot worship Jesus without saying something. Words are what expresses your heart of worship.

This is what gets a response from Jesus.

(Matthew 15:26 NKJV) But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”

(Matthew 15:26 AMPC) And He answered, It is not right (proper, becoming, or fair) to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.

Bread is staple item at most tables for a meal.

Healing and deliverance belong to God’s children. Jesus is saying that healing and deliverance is something that should be a staple item for God’s children.

(Psalms 23:5 NKJV) You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.

It does not matter if your enemy is at the table that God provides for you and tries to bring his things into your life. Why? Because bread is always prepared for you at God’s table. Beside that, the devil does not have a place at the table.

During Jesus’ day, the Gentiles were referred to as dogs by the Jews. He was not trying to offend her. He was trying to get her attention.

It was a very common practice in that day for dogs to not have regular care by an owner. Once they were no longer puppies, they were often left to fend for themselves.

Jesus is merely expressing to her that the “dogs” do not have a caretaker or someone who is supposed to take care of them.

(Matthew 15:27 NKJV) And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”

(Matthew 15:27 AMPC) She said, Yes, Lord, yet even the little pups (little whelps) eat the crumbs that fall from their [young] masters’ table.

Notice she did not argue and get offended with Jesus. She changed her approach. She refused to give up for her daughter’s deliverance.

She asked Jesus to give her what the children dismiss, and it falls from the table because they did not eat and partake of it.

Jesus was not trying to offend her; He was simply trying to get what she wants to her. He had to bring some correction and she took it.

She was also saying a crumb of God’s power is enough for her situation!

(Matthew 15:28 NKJV) Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

She had great faith! We can see great faith won’t attempt to protect its pride. Great faith is not easily offended.

She did not start out with great faith, but because Jesus kept working with her, her faith became great. Jesus will do the same for us!

  • The Healings of Jesus – 16

The Healings of Jesus – Part 16
    the widow’s son

(Luke 7:11-17 NKJV) Now it happened, the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and a large crowd. (12) And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. (13) When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” (14) Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” (15) So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother. (16) Then fear came upon all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen up among us”; and, “God has visited His people.” (17) And this report about Him went throughout all Judea and all the surrounding region.

This is very similar to the raising of the son of the widow of Zarephath by Elijah in 1 Kings 17 and the raising of the son of the Shunamite woman by Elisha in 2 Kings 4.

Jesus had an example to follow from the Word from the ministry of these two Prophets. He always acted on the Word of God.

(Luke 7:11 NKJV) Now it happened, the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and a large crowd.

This is the first time Jesus had visited Nain that we know of. This is 21 miles from Capernaum where His ministry was headquartered.

(Luke 7:12 NKJV) And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her.

Jesus was outside of the city and approaching the city gate.

(Psalms 146:9 NKJV) The LORD watches over the strangers; He relieves (supports) the fatherless and widow; But the way of the wicked He turns upside down.

(Psalms 68:5 NKJV) A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in His holy habitation.

When you are a widow, God personally takes you on to take care of you and sustains you.

It is not a coincidence that Jesus is arriving at the time of this widow’s sorrow.

Surely, there were other widows during this time, but perhaps this woman had been praying for a miracle for her son as the widows of the Old Testament.

The dead were always carried outside the city. They were not allowed to bury the dead inside the city, especially near a synagogue.

There might be a rare exception for royalty.

The age of the son is not given but in verse 14, Jesus called him a young man. So, from this we know that he died prematurely.

This also would have meant an increased hardship on the widow and her family members because at his death, they would have been required to take care of her. If they could not take care of her, then the community would have been forced to take care of her.

(Luke 7:13 NKJV) When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.”

Jesus saw the mother (not the son) and He had compassion on her.

Notice this was not sympathy. Bible compassion moves you to action.

Jesus was full of compassion, mercy, love, and goodness. What you are full of will move you to action.

Compassion is not an emotional flow. It is a spiritual flow out of His spirit. Sympathy is a flow of your emotions.

Every time we saw in the Jesus’ ministry that He was moved with compassion, a healing or a miracle followed.

Compassion in us is nurtured by spending time in the Presence of God.

Notice, Jesus told the mother. “Do not weep.” One translation says Jesus said, “You can stop crying.”

What was the mother’s response to Jesus? She said nothing in response to what Jesus said and what He did next. SHE DID NOT OBJECT AND SHE DID NOT RESIST!

(Luke 7:14 NKJV) Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.”

Jesus simply touches the coffin and those carrying the coffin stopped.

There was not a huge display or performance put on by Jesus.

Compassion does not attempt to draw attention to yourself.

This was a very non-dramatic act by Jesus.

Isn’t it interesting that Jesus starts talking to a dead man? That does not make sense in the natural but in Jesus’ heart, the man is not beyond reach. Also remember, Jesus always works from the result He wants backwards. (Same as raising Lazarus from the dead.)

Faith talks to what is dead.

Seven words change this man’s destiny. This did not require a long-drawn-out prayer by the Lord.

Jesus did not lay hands on the man. He is not loud. He gives no indication of desperation. He just gave the command of faith. He expected dead things to hear Him and dead things to obey Him.

(Luke 7:15 NKJV) So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother.

Notice the young man did not have to recover after he was raised up.

There are three Gifts of Manifestations of the Spirit that are required to raise someone from the dead:

      • Gifts of Healings
      • Working of Miracles
      • Gift of Faith (Special Faith)

These Gifts operate as the Holy Spirit wills.

You will not be able to randomly go around and raise people from the dead. You must have the Holy Spirit’s leading.

(Luke 7:16-17 NKJV) Then fear came upon all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen up among us”; and, “God has visited His people.” (17) And this report about Him went throughout all Judea and all the surrounding region.

This miracle caused the people to glorify God.

They said that “God has visited His people.” Why did they say this? Because a man anointed by the Holy Spirit represents a visitation from God.

This word “visited” means that “God showed up to tend to the sick.”

  • The Healings of Jesus – 15

The Healings of Jesus – Part 15
The Healing of the Centurion’s Servant

(John 21:25 AMPC) And there are also many other things which Jesus did. If they should be all recorded one by one [in detail], I suppose that even the world itself could not contain (have room for) the books that would be written.

    • As you hear these things being taught, you can receive your healing!

(Luke 7:1-10 NKJV)  Now when He concluded all His sayings in the hearing of the people, He entered Capernaum.  (2)  And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear to him, was sick and ready to die.  (3)  So when he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to Him, pleading with Him to come and heal his servant.  (4)  And when they came to Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying that the one for whom He should do this was deserving,  (5)  “for he loves our nation, and has built us a synagogue.”  (6)  Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof.  (7)  Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to come to You. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.  (8)  For I also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”  (9)  When Jesus heard these things, He marveled at him, and turned around and said to the crowd that followed Him, “I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!”  (10)  And those who were sent, returning to the house, found the servant well who had been sick.

(Luke 7:1-3 NKJV)  Now when He concluded all His sayings in the hearing of the people, He entered Capernaum.  (2)  And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear to him, was sick and ready to die.  (3)  So when he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to Him, pleading with Him to come and heal his servant.

We can see that this sickness was in advanced stages and the servant was ready to die.

This shows us that nothing is too far gone for Jesus to heal someone, meet that need or to move in any situation.

He was in the final stages, yet the Centurion nor Jesus did not consider him to be too far gone.

The power of God can move and will move in things that it looks like it is too late!!

This Centurion was a commander of at least 100 men in his division.

He was a man in charge.

He must have heard of Jesus and knew that Jesus was a healer not because of what he said but because of what he did in inquiring of Jesus. Healing is what he requested of Jesus.

What you hear about Jesus matters! It mattered for the Centurion and it mattered to the servant.

If you hear the wrong thing you could end up believing the wrong thing. People hear all kinds of things about Jesus and end up believing the wrong things about Him. But you can hear the right things and believe the right things and receive from Him.

People will often say that they know people that did not get healed but one could also say I have known people that did not get saved but does that mean Jesus is not our Savior? Don’t discount healing just because someone else failed to receive healing.

People have something to do with what they receive from Jesus.

Salvation belongs to every man whether they receive it or not!

Healing belongs to every man whether they receive it or not!

The price has been paid for both!

Don’t allow what happened in someone else’s life to move you when you are endeavoring to believe God. If you do, it will weaken your faith. You don’t know what went on in someone else’s heart.

Believing is a choice, not a feeling.

The servant was healed because his employer believed. He was part of the Centurion’s household.

You are in authority over your household, and you can determine what happens in your household.

The soldier initiated the miracle for his servant by sending someone to get Jesus.

When you hear the Word on something it gives you the right to initiate receiving the healing that you heard.

The majority of what you receive from God is initiated by you and not God (Those things that He has already completed the work for you to have.)

He has provided it and is waiting for you to come and get it.

This Centurion must have had a good relationship with the Jews and had done things for them and he must have been well regarded by the Jews for it was the elders of the Jews that were sent to get Jesus. He had a rapport with the Jews because he had a regard for them.

(Luke 7:4-5 NKJV)  And when they came to Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying that the one for whom He should do this was deserving,  (5)  “for he loves our nation, and has built us a synagogue.”

You do not earn something from Jesus but this shows that the Centurion had a reverence for the things of God.

He loves the nation of Israel and must have been a man of some means because he had built them a synagogue building for the Jews.

(Matthew 6:21 NKJV)  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

His heart must have been towards God and God’s people because he had put his treasure towards them to have this synagogue.

(Luke 7:6 NKJV)  Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof.

The man does not have a poor self-image in saying that he is not worthy. He has such a high regard for the things of God that he doesn’t handle these things lightly.

Just because the Centurion had some success in his affairs, he did not regard himself to be equal to Jesus spiritually.

This Centurion had an understanding about how to properly approach someone in authority. (Like the way you properly approach your parents, or someone in a high office.)

He transferred this understanding to the spiritual and it gave him a head start to receive from Jesus.

He took what he learned in the military, he applied to the spiritual and it worked for him.

(Matthew 8:8 AMPC)  But the centurion replied to Him, Lord, I am not worthy or fit to have You come under my roof; but only speak the word, and my servant boy will be cured.

You know you are in faith when all you need is God’s Word on the situation.

The Centurion told Jesus all he needed was the Word for his servant.

(Luke 7:8 NKJV)  For I also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

The Centurion knew that to be submitted under authority is a place of safety for someone.

“I have soldiers under me, but I am also under some else.”

He understands that words of authority were to be obeyed without argument.

God has given us that same divine authority over the devil in Jesus’ Name.

(James 4:7 TPT)  So then, surrender to God. Stand up to the devil and resist him and he will turn and run away from you.

You can speak words in authority over the devil, in Jesus Name, and he has to obey you.

We can command for things to come, things to go, and things to get done!

Faith has to be released through speaking words and your actions.

The most powerful thing you have available to you are your words.

(Luke 7:9-10 NKJV)  When Jesus heard these things, He marveled at him, and turned around and said to the crowd that followed Him, “I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!”  (10)  And those who were sent, returning to the house, found the servant well who had been sick.

Remember, the Centurion sent the elders of the Jews to ask Jesus to come and Jesus replied to them, “I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!”

This man’s faith was great and caused Jesus to marvel. What made the man’s faith so great? He asked for the Word.

The Word of Jesus was enough for a man that was at the point of life and death.

This soldier was facing a life and death situation, but he knew that words win the fight!

  • The Healings of Jesus – 14

The Healings of Jesus – Part 14
The Healing of the Paralyzed Man

(John 21:25 AMPC) And there are also many other things which Jesus did. If they should be all recorded one by one [in detail], I suppose that even the world itself could not contain (have room for) the books that would be written.

There were innumerable healings and miracles performed by Jesus, but we do not have record of them all. We do have record of 19 of them and because the Holy Spirit instructed those men to record them for us, we should take the time to study them.

In studying these healings, we can learn that if we will do what the people did, we can receive what the people got. (Acts 10:34)

For this reason, we are looking at the details of each case.

    • Jesus wants you to have a life of health and healing and to walk in it, you must know something about it and be skilled in what you know.
    • As you hear these things being taught, you can receive your healing!

(Luke 5:17-26 AMPC) One of those days, as He was teaching, there were Pharisees and teachers of the Law sitting by, who had come from every village and town of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was [present] with Him to heal them. (18) And behold, some men were bringing on a stretcher a man who was paralyzed, and they tried to carry him in and lay him before [Jesus]. (19) But finding no way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him with his stretcher through the tiles into the midst, in front of Jesus. (20) And when He saw [their confidence in Him, springing from] their faith, He said, Man, your sins are forgiven you! (21) And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason and question and argue, saying, Who is this [Man] Who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone? (22) But Jesus, knowing their thoughts and questionings, answered them, Why do you question in your hearts? (23) Which is easier: to say, Your sins are forgiven you, or to say, Arise and walk [about]? (24) But that you may know that the Son of Man has the [power of] authority and right on earth to forgive sins, He said to the paralyzed man, I say to you, arise, pick up your litter (stretcher), and go to your own house! (25) And instantly [the man] stood up before them and picked up what he had been lying on and went away to his house, recognizing and praising and thanking God. (26) And overwhelming astonishment and ecstasy seized them all, and they recognized and praised and thanked God; and they were filled with and controlled by reverential fear and kept saying, We have seen wonderful and strange and incredible and unthinkable things today!

This is definitely not a common occurrence!

(Luke 5:17 AMPC) One of those days, as He was teaching, there were Pharisees and teachers of the Law sitting by, who had come from every village and town of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was [present] with Him to heal them.

Jesus was teaching and there were religious leaders sitting in the room. This was a regional ministers meeting that Jesus was teaching at.

“And the power of the Lord was [present] with Him to heal them.”

The power of God was present for ALL of them. The power of God was not being selective then and it is not selective now.

Since the power of the Lord was present to heal them, we know that Jesus must have been teaching on healing.

What an anointed minister teaches, the power of God becomes available to produce what is being taught.

(Mark 16:20 NKJV) And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.

In Bible School, Bro. Hagin used to tell us that if we want something in our churches, we needed to teach on it. If you want healings in your church, then you must teach on healing. If you want the Gifts of the Spirit in your church, then you need to teach on the Gifts of the Spirit. These things will come into manifestation if the people will believe what is taught.

As we have said before, what we teach on is what people will have faith for. (Romans 10:17)

As believers, we will not receive from the power of God just because we are sitting in the room where it is present. We must release our faith for it. The people have a role to play in the service just like the one ministering the Word of God.

Jesus said to Brother Hagin, when He was on the earth, He was the manifestation of the power of God. Throughout the Old Testament, the power of God was not available to the general public. It was contained within the Holy of Holies in the Tabernacle and only the Hight Priest could access it once a year.

After Jesus was anointed by the Holy Ghost after His baptism, then the power of God was manifested through Him in the earth. Jesus set aside everything that made Him the divine Son of God and became a man anointed by the Holy Spirit, to model how we as believers could live and function in the earth.

For the first time in human history, the manifested power of God was out mingling among the people.

Now that the Holy Ghost has been poured out, the power of God is now poured out in mass in the earth. The Holy Spirit is everywhere! That is why someone can be saved anywhere they happen to be and believe the Gospel.

The Holy Spirit has not always been present in the earth as He is today.

The power of God is present everywhere and available to everyone! There is enough healing power present in every hospital room, every cancer clinic, everywhere there is a need. But one must know that it is present and believe and cooperate with it.

You receive and cooperate with it by your words and actions.

(Luke 5:18-19 AMPC) And behold, some men were bringing on a stretcher a man who was paralyzed, and they tried to carry him in and lay him before [Jesus]. (19) But finding no way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him with his stretcher through the tiles into the midst, in front of Jesus.

There was a lot of people present there that day.

When there was no access, they made an access to Jesus. They would not be denied.

How bad do you want your healing?

This shows how determined they were for this man to receive his healing. He had faith friends that were willing to do whatever it takes for the man to receive his healing.

If you don’t have any faith friends in your life, you need to get some.

Faith will do what is not convenient!

Faith does not look for the easy way out. It perseveres until it receives what is desired.

(Luke 5:20 AMPC) And when He saw [their confidence in Him, springing from] their faith, He said, Man, your sins are forgiven you!

He saw their faith. Faith is a spiritual force that is resident in your spirit. How then did Jesus SEE their faith? Through their actions.

People can know where your faith is by listening to you talk and watching your actions.

How do we show Jesus our faith? By what we say and what we do.

Jesus spoke something to the man. He said, “Man, your sins are forgiven you!”

Perhaps the man’s sin is what opened the door for the man’s condition or perhaps his past was keeping him from being able to receive his healing. Nevertheless, Jesus addressed sin and eliminated it from keeping the man sick.

(Luke 5:21-23 AMPC) And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason and question and argue, saying, Who is this [Man] Who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone? (22) But Jesus, knowing their thoughts and questionings, answered them, Why do you question in your hearts? (23) Which is easier: to say, Your sins are forgiven you, or to say, Arise and walk [about]?

Notice, Jesus did not say, “Which is harder to say…” He specifically used the word “easy” because healing is an easy thing for Him. Forgiveness is an easy thing for Him.

Just because it may be hard for us does not mean it is a hard thing for Him.

It is just as easy for God to heal as it is for God to forgive.

(Luke 5:24 AMPC) But that you may know that the Son of Man has the [power of] authority and right on earth to forgive sins, He said to the paralyzed man, I say to you, arise, pick up your litter (stretcher), and go to your own house!

If you were there that day, you would not have been able to visibly see that the man was forgiven but you surely would have been able to see that he was healed. Therefore, he was raised up to prove that he was forgiven.

Jesus did not pray for the man or lay hands on the man. He gave the man something to obey.

Miracles begin with obeying the Word Jesus has given you.

Obedience DOES NOT earn your miracle or healing. Obedience POSITIONS you for your healing or miracle.

When he obeyed what Jesus told him to do, the healing power of God met him at his doing.

(Luke 5:25-26 AMPC) And instantly [the man] stood up before them and picked up what he had been lying on and went away to his house, recognizing and praising and thanking God. (26) And overwhelming astonishment and ecstasy seized them all, and they recognized and praised and thanked God; and they were filled with and controlled by reverential fear and kept saying, We have seen wonderful and strange and incredible and unthinkable things today!

No one else was healed that day but they could have been. Yet, they were filled with astonishment at what had happened to the one man.

This man’s healing had an impact on the other people present there that day.

The Healings of Jesus – Part 13

    • As you hear these things being taught, you can receive your healing!

(John 5:1-2 NKJV) After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. (2) Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches.

    • The pool was by the Sheep Gate used for bringing the sheep into the Temple for sacrifice.
    • It is no accident that Jesus comes by this Gate.
    • Pool of Bethesda was not always named this.
    • At one time it was a beautiful place for the rich and educated of the day to go and bathe and have some spa treatment.
    • It was usually spring fed either with warm spring water or fresh, natural, and clean spring water.
    • It was ornately decorated with marble and frescos – similar to what we see has been excavated in Pompeii, Italy today.
    • Over time the spring water must have dried up as we see the water was not moving.
    • Because of the five porches surrounding the pool, the wind did not even stir the water and it must have become stagnant.
    • Because of this, the wealthy and the educated moved to another pool and the sick people moved in.
    • The Scripture says that there was a great multitude of sick people lying there almost on top of each other waiting to be healed.
    • The name “Bethesda” means “house of mercy” or “place where mercy was poured out”.
    • The sick people waited for the angel to come and stir and agitate the water and then the first one in would get healed.

(John 5:3 NKJV) In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water.

    • These are critical, serious physical conditions that are listed. One translation says some were shriveled. They could have been born this way or perhaps were injured.
    • They were waiting for the stirring of the water. They had no idea when this might happen and that is why they lived there. They stayed and watched for the moving of the water.
    • The people had no idea when the water would be troubled. These people had critical illnesses and were willing to wait a long time if necessary.

(John 5:4 NKJV) For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had.

    • The angel was not a healer as Jesus is the Healer. The angel was a carrier of the healing power of God that would show up when the water would be troubled.
    • There was not an unlimited amount of healing power because only one would be healed.
    • (Testimony of Healing of Mom Hagin receiving a new heart that was brought to her by an angel.)
    • Notice that the condition of the person did not matter to the Healing Power of God. There were blind, lame, paralyzed, etc. people that were present at the pool. Their condition did not matter as if they were first in the water, they were healed.
    • There was not anything magical about the water. Matter of fact, God did not want the faith of the people to be in the water. Also, this wasn’t some type of cruel joke on the people to only allow the “first” one to be healed. God’s desire is that the faith of all those people gathered on that porch would be ignited to receive what God desired to do for all of them, if they would believe.

(John 5:5-6 NKJV) Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. (6) When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”

    Suppositions about the man:

    • This man had been in this condition 38 years.
    • We can assume that he first went there with faith in his heart that he would get healed, but maybe over time, he had lost hope
    • He had seen many of his friends get healed and yet he was still lying there.
    • Jesus received a Word of Knowledge about the length of time of the man’s condition. Yet, Jesus asked him, “Do you want to be made well?”. Why did Jesus ask him that? To see where the man’s faith level was at that moment. The man could be at the right place but not expecting to receive anything from the Lord. He was really asking the man, “What do you believe?”.
    • Jesus could see this man’s heart.
    • He could see that the man had faith at one time but had lost hope of being healed
    • Jesus asks the man a very unusual question, “Do you want to be made well?”
    • This question is very important.
    • After a long time of waiting and lying there in the same sick condition, year after year, he had begun to adapt to his circumstances.
    • He thought and acted like a sick person.
    • All of his friends were sick people that had been lying there with him.
    • All of their conversations must have been about their conditions and what they were feeling that day.
    • Someone had been providing for him – food, clothing, etc.
    • Once he was healed, he would have to begin assuming some responsibility.
    • He would have to get a job.
    • He might have to get some education.
    • He would have to get some new friends and become a healthy member of society.
    • Jesus was really asking him, “Do you really want me to radically change your life? Do you want everything in your life to be transformed?
    • Receiving healing was not just about feeling better.
    • Many people today say they want to change and experience Jesus’ miracle working power in their lives – until they really understand what will be required of them.
    • They have grown accustomed to their dysfunction, their sickness, or their financial situation.
    • To leave these would be to leave what they understand as normal and that with which they have grown comfortable.

(John 5:7 NKJV) The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”

    • Notice, the man did not answer Jesus’ question. Jesus didn’t ask the man if he wanted to get into the water. He asked the man, “Do you want to be made well?”. This was a yes or no question.
    • Jesus found out the man’s focus was on whether he could get into the water and not on God, Who actually was behind the stirring up the water. His focus was on his lack of help to get into the water and not on what God desired to do for him.
    • The man offered a detailed excuse as to why he was still sick and in the condition that he was.
    • Many times, I have seen people do the same thing when asked a similar question.
    • “I would be changed but my husband…” or “I would be changed but my wife…” or “My boss…”
    • Perhaps we have not received our miracle because we are not through making excuses and being willing to change to the new well condition.
    • Jesus then seeing through the man’s excuses gives him a command of faith.

(John 5:8 NKJV) Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.”

    • Jesus gave the man something to obey.

(John 5:9-10 NKJV) And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked. And that day was the Sabbath. (10) The Jews therefore said to him who was cured, “It is the Sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your bed.”

    • The man that was healed was stopped by the religious leaders and scolded because he was carrying his bed on the Sabbath. They were not excited in the least that this man had been healed. They were more concerned that he was violating their rules about the Sabbath.
    • Jesus did this healing on the Sabbath to make a statement about healing being something worthy of the Sabbath.
    • The Greek word for “cured” is the word “therapeuo” which is where we get the word “therapy”. This word means a healing touch that requires corresponding action.
    • Think about it, someone gets some kind of surgery such as knee replacement or hip replacement, it usually requires physical therapy to aid in the healing process.
    • Jesus did not just release His miracle-working power, the man responded to it with corresponding action to cooperate with and confirm the healing process.
    • You do not have to wait 38 years for your situation to change. When the man obeyed Jesus’ instruction the power of God took root in him, and he was completely healed. After 38 years, this man’s time had come. Your time has come too!
    • One thing to note is that the religious leaders were blinded and offended at the miracle this man had received.
    • Instead of seeing God’s goodness, they saw him violating the rules.
    • Not everyone is going to celebrate with you that you have decided to change your situation and receive your miracle.
    • Don’t let that stop you from receiving your miracle – make up your mind you will receive what God has for you and transform your life.

(John 5:11-13 NKJV) He answered them, “He who made me well said to me, ‘Take up your bed and walk.’ ” (12) Then they asked him, “Who is the Man who said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk’?” (13) But the one who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a multitude being in that place.

    • The man must not have ever heard of Jesus because of what he said in verse 13. This means that Jesus ministered to this man out of the mercy and grace of God. Jesus brought this man to a place of simple faith and obedience to pick up his bed and walk.

(John 5:14-15 NKJV) Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.” (15) The man departed and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

    • As soon as this man was healed, he was found in the Temple. Jesus is not only concerned with the man being healed but STAYING healed.

(Ephesians 4:26-27 NKJV) “BE ANGRY, AND DO NOT SIN”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, (27) nor give place to the devil.

    • Jesus wants you to be able to keep your healing! You can receive your healing, but if you don’t stay in the Word and in faith, you can lose your healing. (FF Bosworth – the counterattack)
    • Jesus is demanding perfection because the man could not perform in that way. Jesus is referring to a lifestyle of sin. Do not return to your old lifestyle of sin. Jesus said if you do this, something worse can come on you because you open yourself up to it.

(John 5:16-17 NKJV) For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath. (17) But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.”

    • Jesus called healing the work of the Father. Jesus did not work independent of His Father. Healing is the Father’s work and it pleases the Father for us to be healed.

(Luke 4:38-39 NKJV) Now He arose from the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. But Simon’s wife’s mother was sick with a high fever, and they made request of Him concerning her. (39) So He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she arose and served them.

(Luke 4:38 NKJV) Now He arose from the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. But Simon’s wife’s mother was sick with a high fever, and they made request of Him concerning her.

Luke was a physician and he made sure to note that Peter’s Mother-in-Law was sick with a high fever.

    High (GREEK) – megas

(Luke 4:38 AMPC) Then He arose and left the synagogue and went into Simon’s (Peter’s) house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering in the grip of a burning fever, and they pleaded with Him for her.

This was not a mild passing condition but something that could have been very serious for her.

(Luke 4:39 NKJV) So He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she arose and served them.

Jesus rebuked the fever. He spoke to it. More importantly, the fever heard Him talking to it.

Rebuke (GREEK: epitomao – upon + evaluate) By implication, to admonish strongly, with urgency, authority, i.e., to enjoin upon, charge strictly, the idea of censure being implied, to forbid strictly, or to punish.

(James 4:7 NKJV) Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Resist (GREEK: anthstemi) – To stand against, resist, whether in deed or word

When you rebuke sickness, you are rebuking the devil.

When you rebuke lack, you are rebuking the devil.

Jesus showed us how to deal with sickness: you talk to it. You answer it, you rebuke it, take charge of it.

Someone might say, “…but that was Jesus!”

(John 14:12 NKJV) “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

(John 14:12 BBE) Truly I say to you, He who puts his faith in me will do the very works which I do, and he will do greater things than these, because I am going to my Father.

We are authorized to rebuke in our own lives and in the lives of those in our authority or if someone has asked us to pray for them.

As Born-Again believers, we are Jesus’ representatives in the earth to carry out and do what He wants us to do.

When we do as He did, in His Name, we will get the same results He got.

(Luke 10:19 NKJV) Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Trample or Tread (GREEK: pateo) To trample as in a winepress, to treat with insult and contempt

(Luke 10:19 AMPC) Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and [physical and mental strength and ability] over all the power that the enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you.

(Luke 10:18-19 ERV) Jesus said to them, “I saw Satan falling like lightning from the sky. (19) He is the enemy, but know that I have given you more power than he has. I have given you power to crush his snakes and scorpions under your feet. Nothing will hurt you.

When you step over the devil, nothing will hurt you.

(Matthew 18:18 NKJV) “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

(Matthew 18:18 TPT) “Receive this truth: Whatever you forbid on earth will be considered to be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you release on earth will be considered to be released in heaven.

When you bind something or loose something (according to the Word of God) will be backed up by Heaven.

When He rebuked the fever, it left. That is to say, the sickness had ears to obey His authority. Sickness has ears to hear the authority you have in Jesus’ Name.

(Mark 11:22-23 NKJV) So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. (23) For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

    Jesus spoke to things.

(Mark 4:39 NKJV) Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

Spiritual Law: Words matter, and words rule!

This is why the greatest thing God could give us His Word!

(Colossians 1:13 KJV) Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

Your words spoken by faith in God’s Word not only produced the New Birth in you but translated or transferred you from one kingdom into another kingdom.

(Matthew 8:5-10 NKJV) Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, (6) saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.” (7) And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.” (8) The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. (9) For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” (10) When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!

(Matthew 8:13 NKJV) Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that same hour.

When you understand the power of your words, you will stop speaking words that sabotage your health.

The life of faith is a life with focused attention on God and His Word. Consider not the circumstances.

(Mark 11:23 NKJV) For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

(Luke 4:39 NKJV) So He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she arose and served them.

Notice, SHE got up. She could have laid there and waited for it to come back but she didn’t.

She put corresponding actions with her faith.

Believing is a choice, not a feeling.

She arose and served or ministered to them.

Served (GREEK: diakonos) To serve with emphasis not on the relationship present but the work that needs to be done.

She began to use her newfound strength in service to the Lord and His purpose.

This is one way to keep the devil from being able to steal your healing from you. Your protection is in walking out the plan of God for your life.

Thank God for faith but faith and obedience works hand in hand with obedience to God’s will for your life.

  • The Healings of Jesus – 11

The Healings of Jesus – Lesson 11
    Healing of the Ten Lepers

(John 21:25 AMPC) And there are also many other things which Jesus did. If they should be all recorded one by one [in detail], I suppose that even the world itself could not contain (have room for) the books that would be written.

There were innumerable healings and miracles performed by Jesus, but we do not have record of them all. We do have record of 19 of them and because the Holy Spirit instructed those men to record them for us, we should take the time to study them.

In studying these healings, we can learn that if we will do what the people did, we can receive what the people got. (Acts 10:34)

For this reason, we are looking at the details of each case.

    • Jesus wants you to have a life of health and healing and to walk in it, you must know something about it and be skilled in what you know.
    • As you hear these things being taught, you can receive your healing!

(Luke 17:11-19 NKJV) Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. (12) Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. (13) And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” (14) So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed. (15) And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, (16) and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. (17) So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? (18) Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” (19) And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.”

(Luke 17:11 NKJV) Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.

Samaria was an area that Orthodox Jews did not go into because Samaritans were considered to be half-breed Jews because they had at one time married Gentiles.

Despite all of this, Jesus walked right through (the midst) this region. Why? Because religious tradition did not dictate to Jesus where He went or did not go and who He should talk to or not.

Jesus went anywhere that there were hurting and/or hungry people. He did not care about what people would say about where He went.

No matter where someone’s life might be, off course, and away from God, Jesus will pass right through the midst of their life to reach them like He did these people. He loves people that much.

He was letting this society of outcasts know that He was available to them.

He will never force Himself on someone, but He is available to everyone who will receive Him.

(Luke 17:12 NKJV) Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off.

These men must have been deemed outcasts by the priest because of their physical condition of leprosy.

They left their lives, their families, and their society. Therefore, it was not uncommon for lepers to live together in groups because, all they had was each other. They had to stay a certain distance from other people.

Also, if someone caught leprosy, it was believed that they had come under the judgment of God for some reason. They were looked down upon because of this mindset. They did not receive compassion from others in society because it was believed that God had done this to these people. God does not put sickness and disease on anyone!

These lepers came as close as they could to Jesus and the other people without violating the guidelines of the law. Then they lifted up their voices to Jesus.

(Luke 17:13 NKJV) And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”

They would not have called out to Jesus unless they had heard something about Jesus.

They were in a hopeless situation but somehow, they received hope that Jesus could and would help them.

Many people needing healing would cry out for mercy. Sometimes, they would not say, “heal us”. They would cry out for God’s mercy. This tells us that healing is a flow of God’s mercy.

Anything that their life needed, God’s mercy could fulfill!

(Lamentations 3:22-23 NKJV) Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. (23) They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.

God wants us to live in His mercies every day otherwise He would not give us new mercies every single morning. Anything His mercy can do is available to us every day. Receive His mercies!

Healing is an outflow of God’s mercy!

Provision is an outflow of God’s mercy!

The Mercy of God contains all of the help of God!

How do you receive His mercy? With the words of your mouth.

(Luke 17:14 NKJV) So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed.

(Luke 17:14 MSG) Taking a good look at them…

Jesus saw them… When no one else was looking at them, Jesus saw them. And when He saw them, He said something to them.

Jesus gave them the best thing He could have possibly given them and that was His words. His words are the greatest gift He could have them or us! He gave them Himself in His words.

The word was given to them, “Go show yourself to the priests” before there was any physical change in their bodies. The ONLY reason to go show themselves to the priests would have been if they were cleansed. The men turned and went believing the words of Jesus and “as they went”, they were cleansed.

The removal of leprosy is referred to as a “cleansing” and not as a “healing”. The process of leprosy was stopped at that moment. No more damage to the skin was taking place.

When we need a miracle, He will give us a word to obey.

To go and show themselves to the priests meant they were to go somewhere they weren’t supposed to be and among people. This required faith to obey this instruction.

(Luke 17:15-16 NKJV) And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, (16) and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan.

He must have not seen anything when he first went, but as he obeyed what Jesus said to him, he was healed.

    “…loud voice…” (GREEK) megas phōnē

This man got loud in his giving of thanks. He was a Samaritan. He did not know the formal way to worship God. He had not been taught.

Before now, he was visibly a leper, but now he was very loudly healed!

(Luke 17:17-18 NKJV) So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? (18) Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?”

Jesus was expecting all of them to return to give thanks! Returning to give God glory for what He has done for us is important to us and it is important to Him.

Only one returned to express proper gratitude for what they had received. Are we showing proper gratitude to the Lord for what He has done in our lives?

Gratitude keeps the door shut from allowing the devil from being able to steal what we have received.

(Luke 17:19 NKJV) And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.”

When the man returned and worshipped Jesus, Jesus called that “faith”. Worship is one of the highest flows of faith.

(Luke 17:19 KJV) And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

The other lepers were healed of leprosy, but this man was made whole. The process of leprosy was stopped in all ten of the men, but this man had received what was taken by the disease restored and made whole. This man’s worship gave him something the others did not receive from Jesus.

Jesus was disappointed that the others did not return because He wanted to make them whole too.

Jesus once said to Norvel Hayes – “…My children basically love Me, but they live in poverty, sickness, and defeat. They don’t live in Heaven’s blessings, because they don’t worship Me enough.”
