Understanding the Times and Seasons of the Lord – Part 3

There are two words the Greeks use for time and this is reflected in the New Testament:

Chronos – (used 54 times) refers to a specific amount of time, such as a day or an hour (e.g. Acts 13:18 and 27:9).

Kairos – (used 86 times in the New Testament) refers to an opportune time, a “moment” or a “season” such as “harvest time”

In many Scriptures they are used together and some they are not.

Matthew 16:1-4 NKJV Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven. (2) He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’; (3) and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times. (4) A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” And He left them and departed.

The Lord is wanting His body to be spiritually attuned enough to be able to discern and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit for the Kairos that God brings into our lives.

Ephesians 5:15-17 AMPC Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people), (16) Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil. (17) Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is.

Colossians 1:9-10 AMPC  For this reason we also, from the day we heard of it, have not ceased to pray and make [special] request for you, [asking] that you may be filled with the full (deep and clear) knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom [in comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God] and in understanding and discernment of spiritual things–  (10)  That you may walk (live and conduct yourselves) in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him and desiring to please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing and increasing in and by the knowledge of God [with fuller, deeper, and clearer insight, acquaintance, and recognition].

God is saying that He wants us to fully understand what His will is for our lives, clearly and specifically.

It is possible for us to know what He wants for our lives, what He desires for us and what pleases Him.

(Much of the content for these lessons comes from The Hidden Man by E. W. Kenyon)

Man is the only being in God’s creation that is designed to live out of two realms: the spiritual realm and the natural realm. (Somewhere in the middle is the mental arena.

We have the privilege to move in the realm of the spirit with the help of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. At the same time, we are to navigate this natural world in which we live as spirit beings.

No one did this better than the Lord Jesus in His earthly ministry.

  1. Man is an eternal spirit.

He is created in the image of God. God is a spirit being.

John 4:24 NKJV God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Genesis 1:26 NKJV Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

Image – a likeness, a model, or a shadow. (Like figures in a wax museum.)

Man will live eternally whether he is Born Again or not.

If man was only a physical being, he could not receive God’s nature.

If man was but a mental being, he could not receive God’s nature.

Man had to be a spirit being, an eternal being who would live as God lives to receive His nature. Man had to be in God’s class.

  1. Your physical senses were given to you to allow you to contact this natural world.
  2. Your mental and reasoning faculties were given to you so that you might use the knowledge that your senses reveal to your brain.

1 Corinthians 2:14-16 NKJV (14) But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. (15) But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. (16) For “WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD THAT HE MAY INSTRUCT HIM?” But we have the mind of Christ.

  1. The Holy Spirit was given to us to guide us into all truth or reality.

John 16:13 NKJV However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

He finds it a very difficult thing to lead our reasoning faculties, but it is the normal and natural thing for Him to lead our spirits.

  1. Living by faith is a spiritual thing because faith is of the spirit.

Romans 10:10 NKJV For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

  1. Walking in the love of God is a spiritual thing because the love of God was shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.

You will never be able to walk in love towards people out of your head or your flesh. It must come out of your spirit. (Romans 5:5)

  1. When man fell, he became a partaker of Satan’s nature in his spirit. His spirit died.

Man, in his fallen state, was doomed to be dominated by his senses because there was no life in his spirit.

Romans 5:12 NKJV Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—

Romans 5:19-21 NKJV For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous. (20) Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, (21) so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  1. Jesus had to break into this sense knowledge realm to introduce the Father to sense knowledge man.
  2. You are a spirit, you have a soul, and you live in a body.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 NKJV (23) Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Man is a spirit, and he has a soul. The soul is composed of your reasoning faculties. You live in a physical body. The physical body possesses the five senses, and these are the educators and teachers of the brain.

The brain is severely limited without the physical senses.

Imagine someone as gifted as Helen Keller was with just her sense of touch and sense of smell. Now imagine how limited she would be without her sense of touch and smell.

  1. In the New Birth, man’s spirit is recreated and what was once one with the devil his nature, is now one with God and His nature.
    • Your body enables you to contact physical things.
    • Your reasoning faculties contact mental things.
    • Your spirit contacts spiritual things.
  1. We are designed to live out of our spirits and not our natural bodies or minds.

Proverbs 4:23 NKJV Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.

Proverbs 4:23 NLT Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

Heart = Core of your being

  1. The secret of the divine life is to learn to live in the spirit realm, how to have one’s lamp filled with the oil of Heaven, and to keep one’s spirit fit so no disease can break in upon it.
  2. Knowledge and wisdom are not the same thing.

Sense Knowledge comes from reflection, observation, contact with people, books, and teachers.

Revelation Knowledge comes from the Word of God and by the Spirit of God.

Wisdom comes from God or Satan.

James 3:13-18 NKJV Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. (14) But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. (15) This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. (16) For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. (17) But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. (18) Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

When Sense Knowledge can’t explain things, It comes up with outrageous theories and suppositions (i.e. Darwin’s theory of Evolution)

God reveals His truth (wisdom) to you in your Born Again recreated spirit.

  1. Permanent help for someone must come from a spirit that is is fed and “educated in the Word of God.

Creative faith, dominating faith, healing faith, saving faith, faith for prosperity, are all in the spirit because faith is spiritual.

Faith is not a product of natural knowledge or reason.

Sense knowledge has never produced the kind of faith of which we are speaking. It can produce sense knowledge faith that believes in what it sees, hears, and feels.

Example – you can have faith that a chair will hold you because of what you see and therefore you believe.

Galatians 5:16-17 NKJV I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh (senses). (17) For the flesh (senses) lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh (senses); and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

Galatians 5:19-22 NKJV Now the works of the flesh (senses) are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, (20) idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, (21) envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, (23) gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

EWK – When the human spirit gains the mastery over the Senses, it brings them into captivity. Then a man says, “I cannot do that. My conscience (which is the voice of his recreated spirit) will not permit it.” His spirit has gained the mastery over his mind. (or his natural senses)

Until your spirit gains the mastery over your senses, your faith will never be strong and vigorous.

Eternal Life abides in a man’s spirit. When a man is recreated, and filled with the nature of the Father, which is love, there will come forth from his spirit love acts, promptings for love words and love deeds. Let us study it from another angle. The animal world acts by instinct. They have souls; they reason; they have affection. They have the power of choice in a measure, but instinct rules them. God did their thinking for them. The animal’s safety depends upon instinct. Sight and hearing have a second place. When the wild animal trusts his sight or his hearing and ignores his instinct, he becomes a prey of his enemy. When we ignore the voice of the recreated human spirit, we become a prey of the adversary.

You can see, that if you are a recreated spirit, you should live in the realm of the spirit. Matt. 4:4 “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” This righteous, recreated man lives by the Word, feeding on it, and obeying it. We have found that man is a spirit being. God’s dealings with him are through his spirit. If his mind has not been renewed, the spirit does not have liberty or freedom, and cannot manifest Christ in his life. The spirit of man is really the lamp of Jehovah.

Proverbs 20:27 NKJV The spirit of a man is the lamp of the LORD, Searching all the inner depths of his heart.

EWK – This Spirit of truth was the Holy Spirit, and He was to come and take Jesus’ place after He had finished His Redemptive work. It is almost an unknown fact that the Holy Spirit does not communicate knowledge to the intellect, except in rare cases where one is so dense spiritually that He must communicate with the senses. All the knowledge that natural man has, has come through the senses. It may be necessary that the Spirit come to man’s level (his senses) in order to deal with him.

The Holy Spirit recreates us through the Word. He imparts to us the nature of the Father, and with this impartation comes the new kind of Wisdom. Christ is made unto us Wisdom. This is accomplished when we are recreated.

It is God’s wisdom that is imparted to us in His nature, just as His love is imparted to us in His nature. I have come to believe, as I have studied the subject of the spirit, that when God imparts to us His nature, there comes with it all of the attributes of Himself. They are undeveloped, but they are there lying latent in our human spirits.

How to Develop Your Recreated Human Spirit:

  1. By meditation in the Word
  2. By practicing the Word
  3. By giving the Word first place
  4. By instantly obeying the voice of your spirit (your conscience)
  1. By meditation in the Word

Joshua 1:8 NKJV This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

  1. By practicing the Word

James 1:22 NKJV But be doers of the word, and not hearers only…

  1. By Giving the Word first place

Proverbs 4:20-21 NKJV My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. (21) Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart;

  1. By instantly obeying the voice of your spirit (your conscience)

Proverbs 20:27 NKJV The spirit of a man is the lamp of the LORD, Searching all the inner depths of his heart.
