The Healings of Jesus – Part 15
The Healing of the Centurion’s Servant
(John 21:25 AMPC) And there are also many other things which Jesus did. If they should be all recorded one by one [in detail], I suppose that even the world itself could not contain (have room for) the books that would be written.
There were innumerable healings and miracles performed by Jesus, but we do not have record of them all. We do have record of 19 of them and because the Holy Spirit instructed those men to record them for us, we should take the time to study them.
In studying these healings, we can learn that if we will do what the people did, we can receive what the people got. (Acts 10:34)
For this reason, we are looking at the details of each case.
Remember, pay attention to the details. Sometimes the key for you to be able to receive from Heaven is in the details.
In studying these healing miracles, we can learn how to receive healing for ourselves and learn how to minister healing to others.
This is a summary of the ministry of Jesus: He went about teaching, preaching, and healing.
(Matthew 4:23 NKJV) And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.
(Matthew 9:35 NKJV) Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
We want to emphasize what Jesus emphasized!
These truths belong to us!
Preaching is a proclaiming of the Good News and is designed to draw the attention of people. Teaching brings people into knowledge and revelation of what belongs to us as believers.
- We need to hear proper teaching on healing so that we can cooperate with the healing power of God.
- What you hear, is going to be what you have faith to receive.
- Jesus wants you to have a life of health and healing and for you to walk in it, you must know something about it and be skilled in what you know.
- As you hear these things being taught, you can receive your healing!
(Luke 7:1-10 NKJV) Now when He concluded all His sayings in the hearing of the people, He entered Capernaum. (2) And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear to him, was sick and ready to die. (3) So when he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to Him, pleading with Him to come and heal his servant. (4) And when they came to Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying that the one for whom He should do this was deserving, (5) “for he loves our nation, and has built us a synagogue.” (6) Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof. (7) Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to come to You. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. (8) For I also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” (9) When Jesus heard these things, He marveled at him, and turned around and said to the crowd that followed Him, “I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!” (10) And those who were sent, returning to the house, found the servant well who had been sick.\\
(Luke 7:1-3 NKJV) Now when He concluded all His sayings in the hearing of the people, He entered Capernaum. (2) And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear to him, was sick and ready to die. (3) So when he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to Him, pleading with Him to come and heal his servant.
We can see that this sickness was in advanced stages and the servant was ready to die.
This shows us that nothing is too far gone for Jesus to heal someone, meet that need or to move in any situation.
He was in the final stages, yet the Centurion nor Jesus did not consider him to be too far gone.
The power of God can move and will move in things that it looks like it is too late!!
This Centurion was a commander of at least 100 men in his division.
He was a man in charge.
He must have heard of Jesus and knew that Jesus was a healer not because of what he said but because of what he did in inquiring of Jesus. Healing is what he requested of Jesus.
What you hear about Jesus matters! It mattered for the Centurion and it mattered to the servant.
If you hear the wrong thing you could end up believing the wrong thing. People hear all kinds of things about Jesus and end up believing the wrong things about Him. But you can hear the right things and believe the right things and receive from Him.
People will often say that they know people that did not get healed but one could also say I have known people that did not get saved but does that mean Jesus is not our Savior? Don’t discount healing just because someone else failed to receive healing.
People have something to do with what they receive from Jesus.
Salvation belongs to every man whether they receive it or not!
Healing belongs to every man whether they receive it or not!
The price has been paid for both!
Don’t allow what happened in someone else’s life to move you when you are endeavoring to believe God. If you do, it will weaken your faith. You don’t know what went on in someone else’s heart.
Believing is a choice, not a feeling.
The servant was healed because his employer believed. He was part of the Centurion’s household.
You are in authority over your household, and you can determine what happens in your household.
The soldier initiated the miracle for his servant by sending someone to get Jesus.
When you hear the Word on something it gives you the right to initiate receiving the healing that you heard.
The majority of what you receive from God is initiated by you and not God (Those things that He has already completed the work for you to have.)
He has provided it and is waiting for you to come and get it.
This Centurion must have had a good relationship with the Jews and had done things for them and he must have been well regarded by the Jews for it was the elders of the Jews that were sent to get Jesus. He had a rapport with the Jews because he had a regard for them.
(Luke 7:4-5 NKJV) And when they came to Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying that the one for whom He should do this was deserving, (5) “for he loves our nation, and has built us a synagogue.”
You do not earn something from Jesus but this shows that the Centurion had a reverence for the things of God.
He loves the nation of Israel and must have been a man of some means because he had built them a synagogue building for the Jews.
(Matthew 6:21 NKJV) For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
His heart must have been towards God and God’s people because he had put his treasure towards them to have this synagogue.
(Luke 7:6 NKJV) Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof.
The man does not have a poor self-image in saying that he is not worthy. He has such a high regard for the things of God that he doesn’t handle these things lightly.
Just because the Centurion had some success in his affairs, he did not regard himself to be equal to Jesus spiritually.
This Centurion had an understanding about how to properly approach someone in authority. (Like the way you properly approach your parents, or someone in a high office.)
He transferred this understanding to the spiritual and it gave him a head start to receive from Jesus.
He took what he learned in the military, he applied to the spiritual and it worked for him.
(Matthew 8:8 AMPC) But the centurion replied to Him, Lord, I am not worthy or fit to have You come under my roof; but only speak the word, and my servant boy will be cured.
You know you are in faith when all you need is God’s Word on the situation.
The Centurion told Jesus all he needed was the Word for his servant.
(Luke 7:8 NKJV) For I also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
The Centurion knew that to be submitted under authority is a place of safety for someone.
“I have soldiers under me, but I am also under some else.”
He understands that words of authority were to be obeyed without argument.
God has given us that same divine authority over the devil in Jesus’ Name.
(James 4:7 TPT) So then, surrender to God. Stand up to the devil and resist him and he will turn and run away from you.
You can speak words in authority over the devil, in Jesus Name, and he has to obey you.
We can command for things to come, things to go, and things to get done!
Faith has to be released through speaking words and your actions.
The most powerful thing you have available to you are your words.
(Luke 7:9-10 NKJV) When Jesus heard these things, He marveled at him, and turned around and said to the crowd that followed Him, “I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!” (10) And those who were sent, returning to the house, found the servant well who had been sick.
Remember, the Centurion sent the elders of the Jews to ask Jesus to come and Jesus replied to them, “I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!”
This man’s faith was great and caused Jesus to marvel. What made the man’s faith so great? He asked for the Word.
The Word of Jesus was enough for a man that was at the point of life and death.
This soldier was facing a life and death situation, but he knew that words win the fight!
