The Healings of Jesus – 12

The Healings of Jesus – Lesson 12
Healing of Peter’s Mother-In-Law

(John 21:25 AMPC) And there are also many other things which Jesus did. If they should be all recorded one by one [in detail], I suppose that even the world itself could not contain (have room for) the books that would be written.

There were innumerable healings and miracles performed by Jesus, but we do not have record of them all. We do have record of 19 of them and because the Holy Spirit instructed those men to record them for us, we should take the time to study them.

In studying these healings, we can learn that if we will do what the people did, we can receive what the people got. (Acts 10:34)

For this reason, we are looking at the details of each case.

Remember, pay attention to the details. Sometimes the key for you to be able to receive from Heaven is in the details.

In studying these healing miracles, we can learn how to receive healing for ourselves and learn how to minister healing to others.

This is a summary of the ministry of Jesus: He went about teaching, preaching, and healing.

(Matthew 4:23 NKJV) And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.

(Matthew 9:35 NKJV) Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

We want to emphasize what Jesus emphasized!

These truths belong to us!

Preaching is a proclaiming of the Good News and is designed to draw the attention of people. Teaching brings people into knowledge and revelation of what belongs to us as believers.

  • We need to hear proper teaching on healing so that we can cooperate with the healing power of God.
  • What you hear, is going to be what you have faith to receive.
  • Jesus wants you to have a life of health and healing and to walk in it, you must know something about it and be skilled in what you know.
  • As you hear these things being taught, you can receive your healing!

(Luke 4:38-39 NKJV) Now He arose from the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. But Simon’s wife’s mother was sick with a high fever, and they made request of Him concerning her. (39) So He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she arose and served them.

(Luke 4:38 NKJV) Now He arose from the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. But Simon’s wife’s mother was sick with a high fever, and they made request of Him concerning her.

Luke was a physician and he made sure to note that Peter’s Mother-in-Law was sick with a high fever.

High (GREEK) – megas

(Luke 4:38 AMPC) Then He arose and left the synagogue and went into Simon’s (Peter’s) house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering in the grip of a burning fever, and they pleaded with Him for her.

This was not a mild passing condition but something that could have been very serious for her.

(Luke 4:39 NKJV) So He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she arose and served them.

Jesus rebuked the fever. He spoke to it. More importantly, the fever heard Him talking to it.

Rebuke (GREEK: epitomao – upon + evaluate) By implication, to admonish strongly, with urgency, authority, i.e., to enjoin upon, charge strictly, the idea of censure being implied, to forbid strictly, or to punish.

(James 4:7 NKJV) Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Resist (GREEK: anthstemi) – To stand against, resist, whether in deed or word

When you rebuke sickness, you are rebuking the devil.

When you rebuke lack, you are rebuking the devil.

Jesus showed us how to deal with sickness: you talk to it. You answer it, you rebuke it, take charge of it.

Someone might say, “…but that was Jesus!”

(John 14:12 NKJV) “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

(John 14:12 BBE) Truly I say to you, He who puts his faith in me will do the very works which I do, and he will do greater things than these, because I am going to my Father.

We are authorized to rebuke in our own lives and in the lives of those in our authority or if someone has asked us to pray for them.

As Born-Again believers, we are Jesus’ representatives in the earth to carry out and do what He wants us to do.

When we do as He did, in His Name, we will get the same results He got.

(Luke 10:19 NKJV) Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Trample or Tread (GREEK: pateo) To trample as in a winepress, to treat with insult and contempt

(Luke 10:19 AMPC) Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and [physical and mental strength and ability] over all the power that the enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you.

(Luke 10:18-19 ERV) Jesus said to them, “I saw Satan falling like lightning from the sky. (19) He is the enemy, but know that I have given you more power than he has. I have given you power to crush his snakes and scorpions under your feet. Nothing will hurt you.

When you step over the devil, nothing will hurt you.

(Matthew 18:18 NKJV) “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

(Matthew 18:18 TPT) “Receive this truth: Whatever you forbid on earth will be considered to be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you release on earth will be considered to be released in heaven.

When you bind something or loose something (according to the Word of God) will be backed up by Heaven.

When He rebuked the fever, it left. That is to say, the sickness had ears to obey His authority. Sickness has ears to hear the authority you have in Jesus’ Name.

(Mark 11:22-23 NKJV) So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. (23) For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

Jesus spoke to things.

(Mark 4:39 NKJV) Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

Spiritual Law: Words matter, and words rule!

This is why the greatest thing God could give us His Word!

(Colossians 1:13 KJV) Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

Your words spoken by faith in God’s Word not only produced the New Birth in you but translated or transferred you from one kingdom into another kingdom.

(Matthew 8:5-10 NKJV) Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, (6) saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.” (7) And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.” (8) The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. (9) For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” (10) When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!

(Matthew 8:13 NKJV) Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that same hour.

When you understand the power of your words, you will stop speaking words that sabotage your health.

The life of faith is a life with focused attention on God and His Word. Consider not the circumstances.

(Mark 11:23 NKJV) For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

(Luke 4:39 NKJV) So He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she arose and served them.

Notice, SHE got up. She could have laid there and waited for it to come back but she didn’t.

She put corresponding actions with her faith.

Believing is a choice, not a feeling.

She arose and served or ministered to them.

Served (GREEK: diakonos) To serve with emphasis not on the relationship present but the work that needs to be done.

She began to use her newfound strength in service to the Lord and His purpose.

This is one way to keep the devil from being able to steal your healing from you. Your protection is in walking out the plan of God for your life.

Thank God for faith but faith and obedience works hand in hand with obedience to God’s will for your life.
