Start Here – Part 6

Part 6 – How Do I Hear from the Lord?

(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NKJV) (16) Rejoice always, (17) pray without ceasing, (18) in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

  • Prayer can and should be a two-way conversation.

(Jeremiah 33:3 NKJV) ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’

(John 10:14, 27 NKJV) I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

  • You are a spirit, you have a soul, and you live in a body.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 NLT (23) Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.

  • When you were Born Again, your spirit was made new.

(2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV) (17) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

  • God is a Spirit.

(John 4:24 NKJV) God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

  • God lives in you.

(1 John 4:15 AMP) Anyone who confesses (acknowledges, owns) that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides (lives, makes His home) in him and he [abides, lives, makes his home] in God.

God lives in us in the Person of the Holy Spirit.

We need to become God-inside minded.

  • The Holy Spirit wants to help you and speak to you.

(John 14:16-18 NKJV) And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever– (17) the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. (18) I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

(John 16:13-15 NKJV) However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. (14) He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. (15) All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.

  • Anything that you receive from God will always be in line with His written Word.

(John 1:1 NKJV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

(1 John 5:7 NKJV) For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.

God and His Word are one and they will always agree with each other.

(John 14:26 NKJV) But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

As we deposit God’s Word in our hearts, we give the Holy Spirit something to work with in helping us and speaking to us.

  • You must quiet yourself to hear from God.

(Psalms 46:10 NKJV) Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

(1 Kings 19:9-13 NKJV) And there he went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” (10) So he said, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.” (11) Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; (12) and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. (13) So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave.

(1 Kings 19:12 NLT) And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper.

God is the perfect Gentleman. He will not yell at you above the noise of your life to try and get your attention.

God speaks in a gentle whisper because He is so close to us.

You must invite Him to speak to you.

Examine your life and see if there are distractions or noise that could be keeping you from hearing from God.
