Psalm 91 – God’s Promise of Protection – Part 4

The Word of the Lord to me following the shootings at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX:

“No parent of Mine should have to live in fear where sending your child to school is concerned and so teach them what My Word says in Psalm 91 about My promise of Divine Protection and how they can live in it.”

God’s Promise of Protection

(Psalms 91:1-16 AMPC) HE WHO dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]. (2) I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust! (3) For [then] He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. (4) [Then] He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler. (5) You shall not be afraid of the terror of the night, nor of the arrow (the evil plots and slanders of the wicked) that flies by day, (6) Nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor of the destruction and sudden death that surprise and lay waste at noonday. (7) A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you. (8) Only a spectator shall you be [yourself inaccessible in the secret place of the Most High] as you witness the reward of the wicked. (9) Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place, [Psa 91:1, Psa 91:14] (10) There shall no evil befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near your tent. (11) For He will give His angels [especial] charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways [of obedience and service]. (12) They shall bear you up on their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone. [Luk 4:10-11; Heb 1:14] (13) You shall tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the serpent shall you trample underfoot. [Luk 10:19] (14) Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness–trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never]. (15) He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. (16) With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation.

(Psalms 91:11-12 AMPC) For He will give His angels [especial] charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways [of obedience and service]. (12) They shall bear you up on their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone. [Luk 4:10-11; Heb 1:14]

  • When we obey the Word of God, God gives angels a special assignment to watch over you and keep you safe.

Angelic Assistance

Angel (HEBREW) – “malak” – means messenger

Angel (GREEK) – “angelos” – means messenger

Both can mean either a heavenly being or a human being that has been sent with a message to tell. You must examine the context to see which is being spoken about.

In Revelation 2 and 3, the Lord Jesus told John to write to the “angel” of a specific church. This does not mean that there is a specific angel over that church. In context, it is referring to the “sent” messenger of that church, or the Pastor. We know this because Jesus said that He had somewhat against the angel of a church and Jesus does not have anything against any holy angels. Jesus also told the messenger that they had left their first love. None of the angels are in that kind of spiritual condition.

  1. We know that angels have a dual role as messengers sent from Heaven and helpers and protectors sent to help God’s people.

Luke 1 – Zacharias sees an angel that tells him that his and Elizabeth’s prayers were answered, and they would have a son named John (the Baptist)

Luke 2 – Gabriel is sent to Mary to tell her about the birth of the Lord Jesus

Luke 2 – An angel was sent to the shepherds to tell them about the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.

Matthew 2 – An angel appears to Joseph and tells him to take his family and flee to Egypt because Herod sought to destroy the Child

  1. There are so many angels, they cannot be counted.

Hebrews 12:22 NKJV But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels,

Even though 1/3 of the angels fell with Lucifer and 2/3 did not, they still cannot be numbered. They are innumerable. There are more than enough to protect and take care of us.

Daniel 7:9-10 NLT I watched as thrones were put in place and the Ancient One sat down to judge. His clothing was as white as snow, his hair like purest wool. He sat on a fiery throne with wheels of blazing fire, (10) and a river of fire was pouring out, flowing from his presence. Millions of angels ministered to him; many millions stood to attend him. Then the court began its session, and the books were opened.

Revelation 5:11 NKJV Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands,

  1. They are created beings created by the Lord Jesus.

Colossians 1:16 NKJV For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.

Jesus is called the Captain or Commander of the Lord’s host. (Joshua 5:13-15)

  1. People are spirit beings wrapped up in flesh, but angels are purely spirit beings.

Angels can take on the appearance of flesh bodies, but they do not permanently live in a flesh body.

Hebrews 13:2 NLT Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!

  1. Angels are called “spirits” and “ministers”.

They minister primarily to believers but can also minister to the unsaved.

Hebrews 1:6-7 NKJV But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says: “LET ALL THE ANGELS OF GOD WORSHIP HIM.” (7) And of the angels He says: “WHO MAKES HIS ANGELS SPIRITS AND HIS MINISTERS A FLAME OF FIRE.”

  1. Angels are called beings of light and their habitation is just about everywhere.

2 Corinthians 11:14 AMPC And it is no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light;

  1. Angels are not omnipresent, but they can travel quickly to their assignment.

Angels do not possess a physical, material, body. This means that they are not restricted by the movement of their bodies as we are. The concept of a pure spirit that is not bound by space (or time) is difficult for our minds to process.

  1. Humans are in a different class of being than angels.

Psalms 8:3-6 NKJV When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, (4) What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? (5) For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. (6) You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet,

When Adam was created, his human body put him in a class a little lower than the angels, but he was crowned with glory and honor and that placed him above angels in the Divine order. After Adam’s fall, he was then below the angels.

Hebrews 2:9 NKJV But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.

When we are Born Again, that position is restored and therefore, angels are assigned to minister for us.

Ephesians 1:20-22 NKJV which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, (21) far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. (22) And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church,

Ephesians 2:4-6 NKJV But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, (5) even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), (6) and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

  1. Angels are assigned to minister to those who shall be heirs of salvation.

Hebrews 1:13-14 NKJV But to which of the angels has He ever said: “SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, TILL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES YOUR FOOTSTOOL”? (14) Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?

Under the Old Covenant, angels were assigned by God only to do His bidding.

  1. Under the New Covenant, angels have been assigned to work with believers who stand on and obey the Word of God.

The authority has been transferred to us.

Psalms 103:20-21 NKJV Bless the LORD, you His angels, Who excel in strength, who do His word, Heeding the voice of His word. (21) Bless the LORD, all you His hosts, You ministers of His, who do His pleasure.
