Old School – Part 4

Part 4

Hebrews 2:1 AMP SINCE ALL this is true, we ought to pay much closer attention than ever to the truths that we have heard, lest in any way we drift past [them] and slip away.

Romans 12:10 NLT Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.

Who Do We Honor?
  1. Honor others.

Philippians 2:3-4 NIV Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, (4) not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

  1. Honor authority.

Romans 13:1-2 NIV Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. (2) Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

(3) This is good and pleases God our Savior, (4) who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.

  1. Honor parents.

Ephesians 6:2-3 NIV “Honor your father and mother”–which is the first commandment with a promise– (3) “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

How Do We Honor?
  1. Prioritize

Whatever is first is honored.

Proverbs 3:9 MSG Honor GOD with everything you own; give him the first and the best.

  1. Praise

Our words either honor or dishonor.

James 3:9-10 NIV With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. (10) Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.

  1. Protect

The more you value it, the more you protect it.

John 7:18 NIrV Someone who speaks on his own does it to get honor for himself. But someone who works for the honor of the One who sent him is truthful. There is nothing false about him.

How Do I Receive Honor?

Proverbs 15:33 NKJV The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom, And before honor is humility.

Proverbs 18:12 NIV Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.

Proverbs 22:4 NLT True humility and fear of the LORD lead to riches, honor, and long life.

Proverbs 29:23 NLT Pride ends in humiliation, while humility brings honor.

Humility is the key to honor.
