Part 3 – What Matters
(Psalms 90:12 NIV) Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
(Ephesians 5:15-17 NLT) So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.
WHAT MATTERS
- God matters
(Philippians 3:7-8 NLT) I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ…
(Luke 12:20-21 NLT) “But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’ “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”
- People matter.
(Galatians 5:13-15 NIV) …serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
(Matthew 25:35, 45 NIV) For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in… ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
- Eternity matters.
(Luke 12:15 NIV) Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
(Matthew 6:19-21 NIV) “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
LEAVE A LEGACY
- Know your purpose.
(Psalms 139:13-15 NIV) For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well… All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
(Colossians 1:16 MSG) For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible…everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him.
- Grow to your potential.
(Proverbs 27:17 NIV) As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
- Sow the seeds that benefit others.
(2 Corinthians 9:6-7, 11 NIV) Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver… You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
