Colossians 2:6-7 NKJV (6) As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, (7) rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
Jesus has done all He’s going to do about the devil and his forces until the angel comes down from heaven, takes the chain and binds him and puts him into the bottomless pit. (Rev. 20:1-3)
EWK – “ God has made this investment for the benefit of the Church; He has made this deposit on which the Church has a right to draw for Her every need.
He has given to Him the Name that has within it the fullness of the Godhead, the wealth of the Eternities, and love of the heart of the Father-God; and that Name is given to us.
- We have the right to use that Name against our enemies.
- We have the right to use it in our petitions.
- We have the right to use it in our praises and worship.
- That Name has been given unto us.”
KEH – “Heaven, earth, and hell recognize what Jesus did. All that Jesus did, all the authority, all the power, all of HIs achievements are in His Name. And the Name on our lips will work the same now as it did then.”
The Name of Jesus in Our Everyday Walk
John 16:23-24 NKJV “And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. (24) Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
KEH – “There is a key to prayer without which we can get nowhere. This key will unlock the doors and windows of Heaven and grant our every need. This key is the Name of Jesus.
While Jesus was on the earth, the disciples did not use His Name in prayer. It was after He arose from the dead, conquered the hosts of hell, and was seated at the right hand of the Father… that the Church could pray in the more excellent Name He obtained – the Name above every Name!”
John 14:13-14 NKJV And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. (14) If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
We have the right and the privilege to use the Name of Jesus just like Jesus said we could.
Remember, we are not making a “demand” on God. We are making a demand for God’s will to be done in the situation in Jesus’ Name.
Acts 3:1-10 NKJV Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. (2) And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; (3) who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms. (4) And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, “Look at us.” (5) So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. (6) Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” (7) And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. (8) So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them–walking, leaping, and praising God. (9) And all the people saw him walking and praising God. (10) Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
How could Peter do this? He was standing there the day that Jesus said what He said in John 14:13-14.
Someone might ask, “why doesn’t the Name do now what it did then? Why doesn’t that Name perform the same miracles it did then?
Acts 3:11-16 NKJV Now as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch which is called Solomon’s, greatly amazed. (12) So when Peter saw it, he responded to the people: “Men of Israel, why do you marvel at this? Or why look so intently at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? (13) The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let Him go. (14) But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, (15) and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses. (16) And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.
KEH – We need to feed on God’s Word along this line until our spirits are thoroughly educated and faith rises to a higher level. Then it will be just as natural for us to act on that Word as it was for Peter.
EWK – “When we pray in Jesus’ Name, we are taking the place of the absent Christ; we are using His Name, using His authority to carry out His will on the earth.
…we take Jesus’ place and Jesus’ Name just as though Jesus Himself were here.
The only difference is that instead of Jesus doing it, we are doing it for Him; we are doing it at His command.
He gave us the same authority He had when He was here, and the believer’s position in Christ [in effect] gives him the same standing with the Father that Christ has when He was here.”
Special Faith In the Name?
You might be saying, “If I only had enough faith, I could use the Name like that…
Kenyon writes, “The Right to use His Name is a conferred blessing to the Church – it is a Right that belongs to every child of God.’ He goes on to give four reasons we have the Right to use the Name:
- We are born into the family of God and the Name belongs to the family
- We are baptized into the Name, and being baptized into the Name, we are baptized into Christ Himself
- It was conferred upon us by Jesus Who gave us the Power of Attorney
- We are commissioned as ambassadors to go and herald this Name among the nations
“I cannot see”, Kenyon observes, “where we need to have any special faith to use the Name of Jesus, because it is legally ours. If I had a thousand dollars in the bank, it would not require any conscious act of faith on my part to write a check for a hundred dollars…
1 John 3:23 AMP And this is His order (His command, His injunction): that we should believe in (put our faith and trust in and adhere to and rely on) the name of His Son Jesus Christ (the Messiah), and that we should love one another, just as He has commanded us.
1 John 5:13 AMP I write this to you who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) the name of the Son of God [in the peculiar services and blessings conferred by Him on men], so that you may know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that you [already] have life, yes, eternal life.
Believing in the Name of Jesus is not hard to do. We have made it difficult.
People in other countries do not have the same challenges believing in the Name that we do here in America. They receive from God easily because of the Name of Jesus.
A lot of that has to do with the unbelief that we have been taught here that they simply have not been taught there.
Reigning By the Name
Romans 5:17 NKJV For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)
Romans 5:17 AMP For if because of one man’s trespass (lapse, offense) death reigned through that one, much more surely will those who receive [God’s] overflowing grace (unmerited favor) and the free gift of righteousness [putting them into right standing with Himself] reign as kings in life through the one Man Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
What are we to reign over? Circumstances, disease, sickness, sin, hatred – and everything else that is of the devil.
Colossians 1:12-14 NKJV (12) giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. (13) He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, (14) in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
Colossians 1:13 MSG God rescued us from dead-end alleys and dark dungeons. He’s set us up in the kingdom of the Son he loves so much,
Instead of Satan reigning over us, we are to reign over him and everything he represents.
Healing in the Name
Mark 16:14-18 NKJV Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. (15) And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. (16) He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. (17) And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; (18) they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
The pressure is not on us to do the healing. The healing power rests in the Name of Jesus and His ability.
EWK – “In the beginning, man’s spirit was the dominant force in the world; when he sinned, his mind became dominant – sin dethroned the spirit and crowned the intellect; but grace is restoring the spirit to its place of dominion, and when man comes to recognize the dominance of the spirit, he will live in the realm of the supernatural without effort. No longer will faith be a struggle and fight but an unconscious living in the realm of God.
The spiritual realm is man’s normal home; it places him where communion with God is normal experience, where faith in the miraculous, miracle-working God is unconscious, where he will exercise the highest type of faith and yet be unconscious of having exercised faith as he is when he writes a check.”
KEH – “The Church’s problem has been that we have lived beneath our privileges so long, we think that is normal Christianity. But it is abnormal. It is abnormal Christianity!
The whole Church – the Pentecostal, Full Gospel, Charismatic move included – is in babyhood stage. We’re trying to have faith. We’re trying to believe.
But thank God, some are coming to see the light of God’s Word. I am more convinced today than I was yesterday that in these last days, there is going to arise a company of believers who will see and know their authority, their rights and privileges in Christ. They will know that the Name of Jesus belongs to them. They will take up that Name and start using it as unconsciously was they take their car keys and unlock the car door, then put them in the ignition and start the car.
There is coming the knowledge of what has been revealed all the while in the Word of God, but we have failed to see because we tried to comprehend it with human reasoning. The Bible plainly states
“…But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” (1 Corinthians 2:14 NKJV)
You have to get the revelation of God’s Word in your heart – in your spirit. Your natural mind cannot receive the things of the Spirit of God. They are spiritually discerned.
The Church will never see these things unless they are preached or taught… but it will come, little by little. And when it comes in its fullness – and we grow out of the babyhood stage of Christianity; realize our rights and privileges, and the authority and power in the Name; and rise up to use that Name – it will be said of us as it was the early disciples,
”…These who have turned the world upside down have come here too. (Acts 17:6 NKJV)
