He Was… I Am – Part 5

Isaiah 53:7-9 NLT He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet He never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, He did not open His mouth. (8) Unjustly condemned, He was led away. No one cared that He died without descendants, that His life was cut short in midstream. But He was struck down for the rebellion of My people. (9) He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But He was buried like a criminal; He was put in a rich man’s grave.

Isaiah 53:12 NLT I will give Him the honors of a victorious soldier, because He exposed Himself to death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels.

Matthew 26:36-38 NKJV Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” (37) And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. (38) Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.”

Philippians 2:5-8 NKJV Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, (6) who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, (7) but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. (8) And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

Two types of death:

  • Physical death – separation of man’s spirit and soul from his body.
  • Spiritual death – separation of man’s spirit from God

Matthew 27:46 NKJV And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?”

Acts 2:23-24 NKJV Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death; (24) whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it.

But that was not the end of Jesus’ Story…

Revelation 1:18 NKJV I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.

Hebrews 2:14 MSG Since the children are made of flesh and blood, it’s logical that the Savior took on flesh and blood in order to rescue them by his death. By embracing death, taking it into himself, he destroyed the Devil’s hold on death

 What is your story?

Romans 5:12 NKJV Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned

Hebrews 2:15 NKJV and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

When you surrender your life to Jesus Christ and receive what He did for you:

  • Spiritual death cannot stay in you!

John 3:16 NKJV For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

  • Physical death cannot control you!

John 11:25-26 NLT Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in Me will live, even after dying. (26) Everyone who lives in Me and believes in Me will never ever die…

1 Corinthians 15:26 NKJV (26) The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.

1 Corinthians 15:54-55 NKJV (54) So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY.” (55) “O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING? O HADES, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY?”

John 10:10 MSG A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.
