He Was… I Am – Part 3

Isaiah 53:6 NKJV All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

Isaiah 53:10-12 NKJV Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand. (11) He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities. (12) Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.

In these scriptures, there are three types of sin that are mentioned:

  • Sin – a shortcoming that deserves punishment.
  • Transgressions – the act of rebellion
  • Iniquities – a deliberate sin that is particularly evil, perverted or twisted.

Isaiah 53:11 AMP He shall see [the fruit] of the travail of His soul and be satisfied; by His knowledge of Himself [which He possesses and imparts to others] shall My [uncompromisingly] righteous One, My Servant, justify many and make many righteous (upright and in right standing with God), for He shall bear their iniquities and their guilt [with the consequences, says the Lord].

Righteousness – the ability to stand in the Presence of God without a sense of guilt or condemnation as though sin never existed.

2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJV (21) For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

What does righteousness restore to mankind?

  1. Righteousness restores our standing with God.

Romans 8:31-33 NLT What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? (32) Since He did not spare even His own Son but gave Him up for us all, won’t He also give us everything else? (33) Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for His own? No one–for God Himself has given us right standing with Himself.

  1. Righteousness restores to man his lost fellowship with God.

1 John 5:20 NLT And we know that the Son of God has come, and He has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and He is eternal life.

  1. Righteousness restores to man his lost faith in God.
  1. Righteousness restores our peace with God.

Isaiah 57:20-21 NKJV But the wicked are like the troubled sea, When it cannot rest, Whose waters cast up mire and dirt. (21) “There is no peace,” Says my God, “for the wicked.”

Romans 5:1 AMP THEREFORE, SINCE we are justified (acquitted, declared righteous, and given a right standing with God) through faith, let us [grasp the fact that we] have [the peace of reconciliation to hold and to enjoy] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

  1. Righteousness restores our freedom in God.

Galatians 5:1 NIV It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

Isaiah 54:14 MSG You’ll be built solid, grounded in righteousness, far from any trouble–nothing to fear! far from terror–it won’t even come close!
