Back to the Basics – Part 8

Hebrews 2:1 TPT This is why it is so crucial that we be all the more engaged and attentive to the truths that we have heard so that we do not drift off course.

The Commandment of Love

John 13:34-35 NKJV (34) A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. (35) By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Jesus gave us a COMMANDMENT to love one another.

They will know we are His disciples if we love one another.

  • In the Old Testament, God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses on tablets of stone written by the finger of God.

Exodus 31:18 NKJV And when He had made an end of speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.

  • The finger of God is the power of God or the Holy Spirit.

Luke 11:19-20 NKJV And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. (20) But if I cast out demons with the finger of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.

  • God promised He would do the same in this New Covenant, except He would write the commandment on our hearts.

Hebrews 8:10 NKJV FOR THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS IN THEIR MIND AND WRITE THEM ON THEIR HEARTS; AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.

  • When we were Born Again, the Holy Spirit put this commandment and the supernatural ability to walk in it in us.

Romans 5:5 NKJV (5) Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

This is the love of God; the God-kind of love, not human natural love.

Your Born-Again human spirit wants to love people because that is the nature of God.

We have a potential for great love in us just like we have the potential for great faith in us!

Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, (23) gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

  • Notice love is the first fruit that is produced in us through the power of the Holy Spirit.

The fruit of the spirit is fruit produced from our Born-Again spirit, not the Holy Spirit.

John 15:5 NKJV “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

The fruit is produced because of the life of Christ that is within us.

1 John 3:14a NKJV We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren…

The Blessing of Obedience

Exodus 15:26 NKJV and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.”

The KJV of these Scriptures would imply that God is the one that puts sickness and disease upon people to punish them. The Hebrew words should have been translated into the permissive sense and not the causative sense.

This verse should read, “I will permit none of the diseases on you which I have permitted on the Egyptians…” There is a vast difference between commission and permission.

Exodus 23:25-26 NKJV “So you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you. (26) No one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.

Deuteronomy 7:11-12 NKJV Therefore you shall keep the commandment, the statutes, and the judgments which I command you today, to observe them. (12) “Then it shall come to pass, because you listen to these judgments, and keep and do them, that the LORD your God will keep with you the covenant and the mercy which He swore to your fathers.

Deuteronomy 7:15 NKJV And the LORD will take away from you all sickness, and will afflict you with none of the terrible diseases of Egypt which you have known, but will lay them on all those who hate you.

  • It was possible for the Old Testament believers to live out their days without sickness and disease and fulfill their days if they obeyed the commandments.

Romans 13:8-10 NKJV Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. (9) For the commandments, “YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY,” “YOU SHALL NOT MURDER,” “YOU SHALL NOT STEAL,” “YOU SHALL NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS,” “YOU SHALL NOT COVET,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” (10) Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

Galatians 5:14 NKJV For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.”

  • This commandment fulfills all of the Old Testament commandments meant to curb sin.

Hebrews 8:6 NKJV But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.

  • We have a better covenant established upon better promises than the Old Covenant.

Would God bless the Children of Israel more than the Church if we obey the commandment that Jesus gave us?

Then, it is possible for us to live our days without sickness and disease and have our days fulfilled and just go home to be with the Lord.

  • If you walk in love you have fulfilled the commandment, the blessing of obedience is yours!

You just have to receive the blessing of obedience by faith because you qualify.

  • Every step out of love is sin. If this happens repent and RUN back over to love!
