In praying about this new year and the direction that the Lord wants me to go personally, I heard in my spirit the words reset or reboot.
Being a computer guy for many years, I knew exactly what the Lord meant by a “reboot”.
Sometimes your phone, your computer, your tablet, or whatever device you have can get bogged down over time because of software, downloads, and old programs.
Sometimes the system can get bloated with unnecessary things that will slow it down and hinder its progress. The memory can get overladen with parts of a program that you are no longer running but they linger there until you do something to get rid of them.
The only way to get rid of those things in your system is to do a reboot of your system where you simply restart it and make the system reload. There are going to be other times when you need to do a “hard” reboot where you completely shut the system down where it is off and completely restart it.
REBOOT – to start (something) anew; to refresh (something) by making a new start or creating a new version; to make a fresh start; give fresh impetus or forward motion to something.
Psalms 51:12 | NKJV (12) Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
Restore – Hebrew (sub – Pronounced Shoob) – A verb meaning to turn, to return, to go back, to do again, to change, to withdraw, to bring back, to reestablish, to be returned, to bring back, to take, to restore, to recompense, to answer, to hinder.
This word appears over 1058 times in the Old Testament.
Psalms 23:3 | NKJV (3) He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
Psalms 80:3 | NKJV (3) Restore us, O God; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved!
Psalms 80:7 | NKJV (7) Restore us, O God of hosts; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved!
Psalms 80:19 | NKJV (19) Restore us, O LORD God of hosts; Cause Your face to shine, And we shall be saved!
Psalms 85:6 | NKJV (6) Will You not revive us again, That Your people may rejoice in You?
Sometimes what we need to do is get back to the basics of our Christian life. We allow our lives to become so complicated and filled with unnecessary things that we need a reboot to get us back on track.
Psalms 119:130 | NKJV (130) The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.
Hebrew – someone that is naïve (honestly simple) concerning the challenges and complexities of life.
Dictionary – not complicated or complex, free of deceit or guile
The Word of God gives understanding and light to the open minded and uncomplicated.
Complex – so complicated or intricate as to be hard to understand or deal with.
Good Complexity – the human body, your computer
Bad Complexity – the mismanagement of life’s affairs that makes it difficult to receive the light of God’s Word.
When our lives are complicated, we will never have the understanding necessary to enable us to succeed and overcome life’s challenges.
Complications cast shadows – they obscure the light causing us to stumble through life.
We will never know everything until we get home to be with the Lord because then faith would not be necessary. We should however, have enough light from God’s Word to be able to enable us to be successful in this life.
Why is that after we have taken time off and gotten away and get quiet that it seems like we become so spiritually sensitive?
Psalms 46:10 NKJV (10) Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!
Psalms 46:10 CEV (10) Our God says, “Calm down, and learn that I am God! All nations on earth will honor me.”
To “know God” in the Hebrew means – to ascertain by seeing.
There are a lot of people that have complicated lives that know about God but they do not know God because their lives are too complicated and the complications cast shadows and keep us from seeing.
A lack of knowing God is the reason that a lot of people experience faith failures.
We must meet the prerequisite of stillness to know that He is God.
We can never know that He is God until we get ourselves to a place of stillness.
Still – to cease, to let go, or forsake the challenges, worries, and anxieties that encumber our lives.
There are things that can complicate our lives that are not necessarily sinful.
Luke 10:38-42 | TPT (38-39) As Jesus and the disciples continued on their journey, they came to a village where a woman welcomed Jesus into her home. Her name was Martha and she had a sister named Mary. Mary sat down attentively before the Master, absorbing every revelation he shared. (40) But Martha became exasperated by finishing the numerous household chores in preparation for her guests, so she interrupted Jesus and said, “Lord, don’t you think it’s unfair that my sister left me to do all the work by myself? You should tell her to get up and help me.” (41) The Lord answered her, “Martha, my beloved Martha. Why are you upset and troubled, pulled away by all these many distractions? Are they really that important? (42) Mary has discovered the one thing most important by choosing to sit at my feet. She is undistracted, and I won’t take this privilege from her.”
Notice the scripture says that she was distracted. Distracted from what? The most important thing which was to receive from Jesus at that moment.
Martha was not involved in sin but in a good thing, serving the Lord yet it was causing her life to become complicated.
There were a lot of good things, but in verse 42, Jesus said one thing is needed. You must begin to evaluate your life and choose the things that are needed.
- When you choose something that is not needed over that which is needed it will always produce care and anxiety as it did in Martha.
- Because of the choices Martha was making, the complications in her life were making her critical of her sister Mary.
Luke 10:42 | TPT (42) Mary has discovered the one thing most important by choosing to sit at my feet. She is undistracted, and I won’t take this privilege from her.”
I believe that a key to us having an outstanding year in 2025 is going to be experiencing a reboot and reset of our lives so that we can walk in the simplicity of our relationship with the Lord.
