Speaker: Faith

  • Keep the Switch of Faith Turned On – Part 4

As I mentioned earlier in this series, I said the Lord spoke those words to me down in my spirit: “Keep the switch of faith turned on…”

I knew what He meant in that there were some areas of my life that I had started out believing God for but over time and because of life and the distractions it can bring, had begun to “coast”. I was not as aggressively pursuing the Lord and His Word in those areas. There is no neutral gear for us spiritually. We are either moving forward in our walk with the Lord or we are beginning to move backwards. In other words, I wasn’t necessarily moving forward with my faith and had just begun to coast and let some things I was doing consistently, to slip.

Many people are being beaten up by life and not realizing that life does not have to be that way. We all have problems, difficulties, and challenges but I want you to know that when life gives you lemons, you can overcome them every single time.

James 1:2-4 | AMPC (2) Consider it wholly joyful, my brethren, whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations. (3) Be assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience. (4) But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be [people] perfectly and fully developed [with no defects], lacking in nothing.

Trial or Temptation: (Greek: “peirasmos”) A putting to proof of what you believe by the experience of adversity.

Adversity = pressure in our lives. The enemy is desiring to generate pressure to get you off of what you believe through the adversity.

What We Need to Know About Troubles:
    • The temptation, test, or trial is not coming from God.

James 1:13 | TPT (13) When you are tempted don’t ever say, “God is tempting me,” for God is incapable of being tempted by evil and he is never the source of temptation.

    • God does test us, but never with adversity. His tests are always tests of obedience to His Word.
    • The pressure is coming from the enemy because of what you believe.

Mark 4:14-15 | NKJV (14) The sower sows the word.  [15]  And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts.

James 1:12 | NKJV (12) Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

Endurance – the ability to last, especially despite fatigue, stress, or other adverse conditions.

    How to Develop Endurance:
    1. You must train before the competition begins.

1 Corinthians 9:24-25 | NLT (24) Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! (25) All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.

    1. You cannot be entangled with the affairs of this life. (taking on the cares of this life).

2 Timothy 2:3-4 | TPT (3) Overcome every form of evil as a victorious soldier of Jesus the Anointed One. (4) For every soldier called to active duty must divorce himself from the distractions of this world so that he may fully satisfy the one who chose him.

If you are worried, you are contemplating how you can solve your own problems.

1 Peter 5:6-7 | AMPC  (5) Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you,  (7)  Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. [Psa 55:22]

    1. Make the Word of God first place in your life by spending time in it.

Psalms 1:1-3 | AMPC (1) BLESSED (HAPPY, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather. (2) But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night. [Rom 13:8-10; Gal 3:1-29; 2Ti 3:16] (3) And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity]. [Jer 17:7-8]

    1. If you won’t quit because of weariness, you will win.

Galatians 6:9 | TLB (9) And let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t get discouraged and give up.

    1. Count it all joy when the test shows up.

James 1:2 | NLT (2) Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.

Hebrews 12:2 | AMPC (2) Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God. [Psa 110:1]

  • Keep the Switch of Faith Turned On – Part 3

Understand this, God moves the moment you pray in faith!

Daniel 10:12-13 | NKJV (12) Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. (13) But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia.

There can also be opposition to your prayers in the realm of the spirit, especially when interceding for people or nations.

Do not think for one moment that the kingdom of darkness is going to stand by and let us gain territory without some type of opposition. But if we stand in faith on God’s Word and enforce Satan’s defeat won by Jesus, we will triumph!

We can either speed up or hinder the manifestation of the answers to our prayers.

    1. The answer can come faster if the Word is rooted in us.

How we treat the Word of God determines the speed of our answer.

Bro. Hagin – “The answer to our prayer can come faster if the Word is strongly rooted in you. The more of the Word that is in you, the stronger your faith will become.”

The manifestation is dependent on the strength of our faith.

Feeding on the Word of God means staying with a Scripture that the Holy Ghost stirs your heart towards. Meditate on that Scripture. When you need healing, you don’t need to be studying the Book of Revelation.

If the Holy Ghost directs you to a specific Scripture, you need to camp on the Scripture.

Let the Holy Ghost guide your meditations.

John 15:7 | NKJV (7) If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

It’s not enough for us to be alive in Him, His Word needs to be alive in us. The Word must be a living thing in us.

John 15:7 | AMPC (7) If you live in Me [abide vitally united to Me] and My words remain in you and continue to live in your hearts, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.

Spending time in the Word is the same thing as having a conversation with Jesus. Talk with God about His Word.

Colossians 3:16 | NKJV (16) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Richly (GREEK) – in abundance, in a great measure.

We must be full of the Word of God.

Abraham was fully persuaded that God was able to perform what He had promised. We cannot be persuaded on empty.

When we give an all-out effort to the Word, we speed up the manifestation.

    1. With consistency lies victory.

Hebrews 6:11-12 | NKJV (11) And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, (12) that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Hebrews 6:12 | MSG (12) Don’t drag your feet. Be like those who stay the course with committed faith and then get everything promised to them.

James 1:2-4 | TPT (2) My fellow believers, when it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest joy that you can! (3) For you know that when your faith is tested it stirs up power within you to endure all things. (4) And then as your endurance grows even stronger it will release perfection into every part of your being until there is nothing missing and nothing lacking.

We must develop this consistency if you want to see victory at all and then as it grows, it can help speed things up.

Hebrews 12:1-2 | NKJV (1) Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, (2) looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Endurance – the fact or power of enduring or bearing pain, hardships, etc; the ability or strength to continue or last, especially despite fatigue, stress, or other adverse conditions; stamina:

Galatians 6:9 | NLT (9) So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

Hebrews 10:35-36 | AMPC (35) Do not, therefore, fling away your fearless confidence, for it carries a great and glorious compensation of reward. (36) For you have need of steadfast patience and endurance, so that you may perform and fully accomplish the will of God, and thus receive and carry away [and enjoy to the full] what is promised.

  • Keep the Switch of Faith Turned On – Part 2

Just as electricity has been present from the creation of the world, it lay dormant until someone discovered the laws that one must enact in order to use the benefits of the electricity.

Electricity was here all the time but ignorance kept men from being able to enjoy the benefits of it.

The power of God was sent into the earth in the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost for everyone to be able to receive.

The power of God is here in us lying dormant because the ignorance of men has kept it dormant and not allowed it to be released in the earth so that men could be blessed by the benefits of it.

Because of that ignorance and seemingly “lack” of power, we pray and fast and beg asking God to give us more power. We say, “…pour out Your power upon us Lord…” but that power is already resident in us.

We have all of the anointing and power we could ever need already on the inside of us. It is our ignorance and lack of understanding OR unbelief and disobedience that keeps it dormant and unavailable.

There is not a power problem in the Church today; there is a knowledge problem which leads to a receiving problem.

Law #1 – Just because the healing power of God is present, doesn’t mean you will be healed.

Just because you have a need for healing does not mean that healing power of God is going to show up and heal you.

Many in Moses’ day needed electricity, but just because they needed it did not make it show up and give them light.

The world needs to be saved, but just because they need to be saved does not mean the saving power of God automatically shows up and saves them.

It is not how desperate you are or how sick you are that connects you to the healing power of God; it is your faith that connects you to the power of God.

Law #2 – The power of the Lord can be present to heal and your senses are totally unaware of it.

You can see this in operation today as a healing line is started maybe a handful of people will respond until they some the ones on whom hands are laid upon “fall out” under the power of God and then the line miraculously grows. Why? Because the people do not believe the power of God is present until they “see” results.

Your senses are an unsafe guide to determine whether the healing power of God is present.

Law #3 – In order to benefit from the healing power of God, you must first believe that it is present.

Notice the faith of the individual did not cause the healing power of God to be present but it did determine whether or not they benefited from it or not from the power that was present.

Unbelief will cause your situation to remain exactly as it is right now!

Law #4 – There are two primary ways the healing power of God is made present.

    1. The first and primary way is through the Word of God.

Psalms 107:20 | NKJV (20) He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions.

Luke 7:6-7 | NKJV (6) Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof. (7) Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to come to You. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.

If the Word concerning healing is being preached, then the healing power of God is present!

Our faith and obedience to the Word of God releases the power of God that is already resident in the Word of God – otherwise it lies dormant and unused.

Not everyone has to believe the power is present in a service for the power to be present.

    1. The healing gifts or manifestations of the Holy Spirit
      1. The gifts of healings
      2. The working of miracles
      3. The gift of special faith

Law #5 – The power of God can be in you yet lie dormant and inactive

2 Timothy 1:6 | NKJV (6) Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

Timothy could not pray and ask God to activate the gift, he had to.

1 Timothy 4:14-15 | NKJV (14) Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. (15) Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.

neglect – ignore, overlook, be careless of or regard lightly

Ephesians 1:19-20 | NKJV (19) …and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power (20) which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,

When God gives you something, He is not responsible to make sure that that which He gives you remains active, you are.

The anointing can be inactive and dormant but it will not go away.

Activate that which is already on the inside of you:

    1. Become aware of the presence of the power of God in you through and by the Holy Spirit.
    2. Take upon yourself the responsibility to keep it active.
    3. Meditate on that which God has placed in you.

Ephesians 3:16-19 | NKJV (16) that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, (17) that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, (18) may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height– (19) to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

    1. Give yourself wholly to it – what you give yourself wholly to in private, will show up in public.
    2. Talk about it.
    3. Give thanks for it!
  • Keep the Switch of Faith Turned On – Part 1

Just as electricity has been present from the creation of the world, it lay dormant until someone discovered the laws that one must enact in order to use the benefits of the electricity.

Electricity was here all the time, but ignorance kept men from being able to enjoy the benefits of it.

Praying for more healing power today is just as valid as praying for more saving power.

Romans 1:16 | NKJV (16) For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

To get people to receive the saving power of God, we minister to them concerning their current condition and their need for a Savior and faith arises and they receive the power He has already provided.

To get people to receive the healing power of God works the same way.

There is not a power problem in the Church today; there is a knowledge problem which leads to a receiving problem.

Law #1 – Just because the healing power of God is present, doesn’t mean you will be healed.

Luke 5:17-26 | NKJV (17) Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them. (18) Then behold, men brought on a bed a man who was paralyzed, whom they sought to bring in and lay before Him. (19) And when they could not find how they might bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the housetop and let him down with his bed through the tiling into the midst before Jesus. (20) When He saw their faith, He said to him, “Man, your sins are forgiven you.” (21) And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, “Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” (22) But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, He answered and said to them, “Why are you reasoning in your hearts? (23) Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Rise up and walk’? (24) But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”–He said to the man who was paralyzed, “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” (25) Immediately he rose up before them, took up what he had been lying on, and departed to his own house, glorifying God. (26) And they were all amazed, and they glorified God and were filled with fear, saying, “We have seen strange things today!”

People say, “There is no power present in our church because we are not seeing anyone get healed”. You know we all have been in services where sinners were present and an awesome salvation message was preached and yet when the invitation was given no one responded. Does this mean that the saving power of God was not present because we did not “see” anyone get saved?

Before the man was lowered on the bed of palsy before Jesus to be healed, apparently the people in the same room with Jesus were not aware that the healing power of God was present to heal them UNTIL that man was healed. They were being moved by what they saw, their senses.

Luke 4:16-30 | NKJV (16) So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. (17) And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: (18) “THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE HAS ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR; HE HAS SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED, TO PROCLAIM LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET AT LIBERTY THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED; (19) TO PROCLAIM THE ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD.” (20) Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. (21) And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” (22) So all bore witness to Him, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. And they said, “Is this not Joseph’s son?” (23) He said to them, “You will surely say this proverb to Me, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in Your country.’ ” (24) Then He said, “Assuredly, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own country. (25) But I tell you truly, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a great famine throughout all the land; (26) but to none of them was Elijah sent except to Zarephath, in the region of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. (27) And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian.” (28) So all those in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, (29) and rose up and thrust Him out of the city; and they led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw Him down over the cliff. (30) Then passing through the midst of them, He went His way.

Jesus was asking the people to believe that He was anointed simply based upon the words that He spoke and not some demonstration of the anointing He spoke about.

People try and determine if the power of God is going to be present in a church service based upon who is going to be speaking during that service or not.

  • Faith and Patience: The Power Twins – Part 5

Some of the material for these lessons comes from the book Faith and Patience: The Power Twins by Kenneth Copeland.

Hebrews 6:11-12 | NKJV And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, (12) that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Hebrews 6:11-12 | TPT But we long to see you passionately advance until the end and you find your hope fulfilled. (12) So don’t allow your hearts to grow dull or lose your enthusiasm, but follow the example of those who fully received what God has promised because of their strong faith and patient endurance.

The difference between faith development and patience development:

Matthew 7:24-27 | TPT “Everyone who hears my teaching and applies it to his life can be compared to a wise man who built his house on an unshakable foundation. (25) When the rains fell and the flood came, with fierce winds beating upon his house, it stood firm because of its strong foundation. (26) “But everyone who hears my teaching and does not apply it to his life can be compared to a foolish man who built his house on sand. (27) When it rained and rained and the flood came, with wind and waves beating upon his house, it collapsed and was swept away.”

As the man dug deep and was obedient to the Word of God, that is when faith was developed.

When the storm came and the man stood on what he had heard, believed, and obeyed, is when patience was developed.

Faith is developed before the trial comes. Patience is developed in the trial or tribulation and undergirds, or keeps the door open for faith to work and overcome whatever is put before it.

Being sound in patience is to answer every doubt and fear with the firm assurance and confession that God’s Word is true, no matter what we feel or see.

Regardless of what storms may come our way, the Father’s Word cannot fail. In that kind of atmosphere, faith is free to move and overcome whatever Satan has put in our way.

For instance, when you receive your healing by faith, the symptoms do not always leave immediately. Faith is in operation when you do what the Word said: you believed, received and confessed.

Now you have need of patience so that you will perfect and entire wanting nothing (James 1) Through patience, you hold fast to the Word, regardless of the circumstances, knowing that patience will produce the experience of healing. Working the power of patience is the difference between success and failure in the faith walk.

    How to develop endurance:

    1. You must train before the competition begins to develop the endurance necessary to win and not quit.

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 | AMPC Do you not know that in a race all the runners compete, but [only] one receives the prize? So run [your race] that you may lay hold [of the prize] and make it yours. (25) Now every athlete who goes into training conducts himself temperately and restricts himself in all things. They do it to win a wreath that will soon wither, but we [do it to receive a crown of eternal blessedness] that cannot wither. (26) Therefore I do not run uncertainly (without definite aim). I do not box like one beating the air and striking without an adversary. (27) But [like a boxer] I buffet my body [handle it roughly, discipline it by hardships] and subdue it, for fear that after proclaiming to others the Gospel and things pertaining to it, I myself should become unfit [not stand the test, be unapproved and rejected as a counterfeit].

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 | TPT Isn’t it obvious that all runners on the racetrack keep on running to win, but only one receives the victor’s prize? Yet each one of you must run the race to be victorious. (25) A true athlete will be disciplined in every respect, practicing constant self-control in order to win a laurel wreath that quickly withers. But we run our race to win a victor’s crown that will last forever. (26) For that reason, I don’t run just for exercise or box like one throwing aimless punches, (27) but I train like a champion athlete. I subdue my body and get it under my control, so that after preaching the good news to others I myself won’t be disqualified.

    1. You cannot be entangled with the affairs of this life (taking the cares). If you are worried, you are contemplating how you can solve your own problems.

2 Timothy 2:3-4 | TPT Overcome every form of evil as a victorious soldier of Jesus the Anointed One. (4) For every soldier called to active duty must divorce himself from the distractions of this world so that he may fully satisfy the one who chose him.

Learn to cast your cares or worries on Him.

Mark 4:18-19 | NKJV Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, (19) and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

1 Peter 5:6-7 | AMPC Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you, (7) Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. [Psa 55:22]

    1. You must develop a root of consecration to the Word by spending time meditating on the Word before you can stand on it.

Psalms 1:1-3 | NKJV Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; (2) But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. (3) He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

    1. If you won’t quit because of weariness, you will win.

Galatians 6:9 | NKJV And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

Galatians 6:9 | MSG So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit.

What is the weariness described? Discouragement.

Discouragement is a product of repeated disappointment.

Disappointment – the frustration of expectancy.

Disappointment leads to discouragement leads to despair leads to death.

Disappointment is always rooted in the past and we must forget the past.

    1. Count it all joy when the test shows up.

Nehemiah 8:10 | NKJV Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

Know that when we choose to be joyful in the midst of the trial it will provide the supernatural strength that you need to make it to the end of the adversity.

Hebrews 12:2 | NKJV looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

    Steps to cultivating endurance:

    1. You must train before the competition begins to develop the endurance necessary to win and not quit.
    2. You cannot be entangled with the affairs of this life (taking the cares). If you are worried, you are contemplating how you can solve your own problems.
    3. You must develop a root of consecration to the Word before you can stand on it by spending time meditating on the Word.
    4. If you won’t quit because of weariness, you will win.
    5. Count it all joy when the test shows up.

It took Abraham 25 years to receive the manifestation of the Promise God had given him.

God’s desire is for you to receive the promise as soon as possible because the sooner it enters into your life and then can flow out of your life into the life of someone else.

Abraham did do one thing right: HE DID NOT GIVE UP!

These are the reasons that it took 25 years for Abraham to receive the promise:

Genesis 12:1-5 NKJV Now the LORD had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. (2) I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. (3) I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (4) So Abram departed as the LORD had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. (5) Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan.

    1. Abraham disobeyed the Lord from the beginning in that he did not separate himself from the worldly relationships he had before his relationship with God.

Maintaining those relationships will always prolong you receiving the promise.

2 Corinthians 6:17-18 AMPC (17) So, come out from among [unbelievers], and separate (sever) yourselves from them, says the Lord, and touch not [any] unclean thing; then I will receive you kindly and treat you with favor, [Isa 52:11] (18) And I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty. [Isa 43:6; Hos 1:10]

Please understand that you don’t burn your relational bridges but you must sever the fellowship.

Don’t offend them with your spiritual superiority.

Lot pitched his tent towards Sodom (he was attracted to the world revealing where his heart was – Gen. 13:12)

Genesis 12:9-10 NKJV (9) So Abram journeyed, going on still toward the South. (10) Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to dwell there, for the famine was severe in the land.

    1. Abraham had arrived in the land of Canaan, where he was supposed to be but when pressure showed up in the form of a famine, he turned towards Egypt, a type of the world.

The natural human tendency is when famine comes, even though we may be right in the middle of God’s will, when insufficiency shows up we turn to the world.

We tend to begin to operate like the world.

God never wants us to run from a famine in our lives but we should stay right in the will of God and continue to trust Him.

Our spiritual decisions should never be based on economic indicators.

Abraham’s child, got that part right:

    Genesis 26:1-4 NKJV (1) There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, in Gerar. (2) Then the LORD appeared to him and said: “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land of which I shall tell you. (3) Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your descendants I give all these lands, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father. (4) And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed;

Genesis 26:12-14 NKJV (12) Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the LORD blessed him. (13) The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous; (14) for he had possessions of flocks and possessions of herds and a great number of servants. So the Philistines envied him.

Genesis 12:11-13 NKJV (11) And it came to pass, when he was close to entering Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, “Indeed I know that you are a woman of beautiful countenance. (12) Therefore it will happen, when the Egyptians see you, that they will say, ‘This is his wife’; and they will kill me, but they will let you live. (13) Please say you are my sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that I may live because of you.”

    1. Abraham was willing to compromise his integrity by lying about Sarah.

The reason that he was willing to lie was because he was concerned what people were going to think about him.

You can’t trust the Word of God to any greater degree than people can trust your word.

If you know your word is no good, it undermines your ability to believe God’s Word.

This is why God hates lying so much because of the way it undermines your ability to believe God.

It is a tendency that we all face.

Genesis 16:1-4 NKJV (1) Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. And she had an Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar. (2) So Sarai said to Abram, “See now, the LORD has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her.” And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai. (3) Then Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar her maid, the Egyptian, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan. (4) So he went in to Hagar, and she conceived. And when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress became despised in her eyes.

    1. After the passage of time, Abraham felt the need to help God out accomplishing the promise.

Someone might ask about going to the Doctor or the Bank, are you endeavoring to help God with His promise.

As long as you are not altering the condition of the promise you are not in danger of doing this.

God said that Abraham would be the Father of many nations THROUGH SARAH.

They altered the promise by Abraham going in to Hagar.

Anytime that you do this you will always give birth to a product of the flesh, and Ishmael that will dog you for the rest of your life.

When you make an effort to help God out, it will always be in the strength of your flesh.

    1. Come out of fellowship with unbelievers
    2. Don’t turn to the world in a time of insufficiency.
    3. Don’t compromise your integrity because of what others may think about you.
    4. After the passing of time, don’t fall into the tendency to want to help God out and cause the promise to come to pass.

If you will allow faith and patience to work they will bring you to a place of wanting nothing.

  • Faith and Patience: The Power Twins – Part 4

Hebrews 11:1-3 | NKJV Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (2) For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. (3) By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

Hope – confident expectation something will happen

    • Hope is the blueprint that your faith builds from to produce the quality of your life.
    • Hope is the vision that we have of our lives.
    • The vision we have of our lives is extremely important because it ultimately shapes the tomorrow of our lives.

Expectation – a looking forward to, or anticipation, prospect for the future, as of advancement or prosperity

James 1:2-4 | KJV My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; (3) Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. (4) But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Temptation – NT:3986 peirasmos (pi-ras-mos’); from NT:3985; a putting to proof (by experiment [of good], experience [of evil], solicitation, discipline or provocation); by implication, adversity:

James 1:12 | KJV Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

Endureth = patience (same word in Greek) have fortitude, persevere

“…that you may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”

Amplified – “…so that you may be people perfectly and fully developed with no defects, lacking nothing.”

James 1:12 | CEV God will bless you, if you don’t give up when your faith is being tested. He will reward you with a glorious life, just as he rewards everyone who loves him.

James 1:12 | TPT If your faith remains strong, even while surrounded by life’s difficulties, you will continue to experience the untold blessings of God! True happiness comes as you pass the test with faith, and receive the victorious crown of life promised to every lover of God!

The first step to overcoming adversity and passing the test is found in verse 13.

Do not say that the adversity is coming from God.

James 1:13 | NKJV Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.

God does test us, but never with adversity. His tests are always tests of obedience.

Passing the test does require consistency but there is more to it.

Adversity = pressure in our lives.

The enemy is desiring to generate pressure to get you off of what you believe through the adversity.

Many people think that trials make us stronger. The trials that Satan causes make people weaker. If it were the trials and tribulations that make us strong, everyone on earth would be spiritual giants.

So, what makes stronger? What perfects us?

    Ephesians 4:11-14 | KJV And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; (12) For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: (13) Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: (14) That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

We are to be perfected – not through tribulations but by the Word of God and through the ministry gifts.

    How to develop endurance:

    1. You must train before the competition begins in order to develop the endurance necessary to win and not quit.

    5. If you won’t quit because of weariness, you will win.
    6. Count it all joy when the test shows up.

    The Promises made to Israel

Exodus 3:7-8 | NKJV And the LORD said: “I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows. (8) So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites.

Exodus 3:16-17 | NKJV Go and gather the elders of Israel together, and say to them, ‘The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared to me, saying, “I have surely visited you and seen what is done to you in Egypt; (17) and I have said I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, to a land flowing with milk and honey.” ‘

Exodus 12:25 | NKJV It will come to pass when you come to the land which the LORD will give you, just as He promised, that you shall keep this service.

Exodus 13:5 | NKJV (5) And it shall be, when the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, which He swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall keep this service in this month.

Leviticus 20:24 | NKJV (24) But I have said to you, “You shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you to possess, a land flowing with milk and honey.” I am the LORD your God, who has separated you from the peoples.

Numbers 10:29 | NKJV Now Moses said to Hobab the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, “We are setting out for the place of which the LORD said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will treat you well; for the LORD has promised good things to Israel.”

What the Children of Israel Actually Saw and Expected

Numbers 13:1-3 | NKJV And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, (2) “Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel; from each tribe of their fathers you shall send a man, every one a leader among them.” (3) So Moses sent them from the Wilderness of Paran according to the command of the LORD, all of them men who were heads of the children of Israel.

Numbers 13:17-24 | NKJV Then Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, “Go up this way into the South, and go up to the mountains, (18) and see what the land is like: whether the people who dwell in it are strong or weak, few or many; (19) whether the land they dwell in is good or bad; whether the cities they inhabit are like camps or strongholds; (20) whether the land is rich or poor; and whether there are forests there or not. Be of good courage. And bring some of the fruit of the land.” Now the time was the season of the first ripe grapes. (21) So they went up and spied out the land from the Wilderness of Zin as far as Rehob, near the entrance of Hamath. (22) And they went up through the South and came to Hebron; Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, were there. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) (23) Then they came to the Valley of Eshcol, and there cut down a branch with one cluster of grapes; they carried it between two of them on a pole. They also brought some of the pomegranates and figs. (24) The place was called the Valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the men of Israel cut down there.

Numbers 13:25-33 | NKJV And they returned from spying out the land after forty days. (26) Now they departed and came back to Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the children of Israel in the Wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land. (27) Then they told him, and said: “We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. (28) Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there. (29) The Amalekites dwell in the land of the South; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and along the banks of the Jordan.” (30) Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” (31) But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.” (32) And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. (33) There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”

Numbers 14:1-5 | NKJV So all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night. (2) And all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness! (3) Why has the LORD brought us to this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should become victims? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?” (4) So they said to one another, “Let us select a leader and return to Egypt.” (5) Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

The vision that the children of Israel had for their lives was shaped by hundreds of years in bondage and was going to keep them in bondage.

Is the vision or expectation for your life keeping you in bondage?

    You must change your expectation.

You must begin to frame the world of your tomorrow by what you see today and then take your faith and build it.

James 1:2-4 | KJV My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; (3) Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. (4) But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

[Psa 55:22]

    1. You must develop a root of consecration to the Word before you can stand on it by spending time meditating on the Word.

  • Faith and Patience: The Power Twins – Part 2

Some of the material for these lessons comes from the book Faith and Patience: The Power Twins by Kenneth Copeland.

James 1:2-4 | AMPC Consider it wholly joyful, my brethren, whenever you are enveloped in or encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations. (3) Be assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience. (4) But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be [people] perfectly and fully developed [with no defects], lacking in nothing.

KCM – “The power of patience is a working power. When faith has a tendency to waver, it is patience that comes to faith’s aid to make it stand. The power of patience is necessary to undergird faith.

Faith and patience are the power twins. Together they will produce every time. Patience without faith has no power to call into reality the thing desired. Faith is the substance of things we hope for. Patience without faith will have no substance.

On the other hand, faith without patience many times will fail to stand firm on the evidence of the Word that gives deed to things not seen. Without the power of patience at work – we will allow the sensory knowledge – the things we see – to overwhelm our faith.

Patience undergirds faith and gives it endurance to persevere until the answer comes.

Traditionally, we think of patience as knuckling under and being satisfied with whatever comes our way. That is not at all what patience is. Patience is a real force (just like faith). It has to be developed.”

It is important to note that tradition teaches us that trials build our faith, but the Bible does not teach that.

It is vitally important that we realize the difference between the development of our faith and developing patience.

Trials do not develop your faith. They never have.

    Romans 5:3 | NKJV  (3) And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;

Romans 5:3 | ERV (3) And we are also happy with the troubles we have. Why are we happy with troubles? Because we know that these troubles make us more patient.

Faith is developed as we act on the Word of God.

Hebrews 12:2 | NKJV looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…

Satan never has been the developer of our faith.

Faith should be developed on the Word of God before the trial or testing ever comes.

Luke 6:47-49 | NKJV Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: (48) He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. (49) But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”

Notice the man dug deep to build his foundation on what he heard. This is where faith was developed.

During the storm is when patience was developed. He knew his house would stand because it was built upon the rock of being a doer of the Word of God.

The force of patience is developed in the trial or tribulation and undergirds or keeps the door open for our faith to work and to overcome whatever has been put before us.

KCM – “The definition of patience is being constant or being the same way at all times. James says in Chapter 1 that we are to be single-minded. We must always respond or react in every circumstance of life the same way – on the Word of God. Regardless of what may be thrown at us, we must become so Word-of-God minded that we do not act in fear or doubt but always act on whatever the Word of our God says.

The Word says that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Jesus has always and will always respond to the Word rather than to circumstances, reason, or fear. This is the way that we should be. Being sound in patience is to answer every doubt and every fear with the firm assurance and confession that God’s Word is true, regardless of what we feel or see. Regardless of what storm may come our way, my Father’s Word cannot fail. In that kind of atmosphere, faith is free to move and overcome whatever Satan has put in our way.

In order to properly develop the power of patience, we must know what the Bible says about testings and trials. If you read the first chapter of James, the Greek word translated temptations is the same word for trials and testings. It is vitally important that we know, from verse 13, that God is not tested by evil, and He does not tempt or test men with evil. We are warned never to say that we are tested of God.

Verse 14 explains what a test or trial is. A test or trial is anything that applies pressure on the lusts or desires of the flesh. Any pressure that draws us away from God’s Word is the beginning of a test. If we then act on that lust, sin is the result. Still, we have a way of escape, for the Word says we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ. He is faithful to forgive us our sins when we confess them. We are still more than conquerors in Jesus.”

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will no suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it” (1 Cor. 10:13).

This scripture reveals three more important things about trials:

      1. Testings and temptations are common to man. No man is ever tested or tried with things that are not common to mankind. Satan does not have the right to call upon his experience as a heavenly being to apply things that are outside the realm of humanity as tests or trials.
      2. God is faithful. You will never face anything that you cannot overcome.
      3. God always provides the way of escape.

Satan cannot attack with any weapon that is greater than what God has provided for us as weapons. Thank God, the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but powerful through god to the pulling down of strongholds. Satan is limited to the things that are common to mankind, but we are not. We have access to the full armor of God.

Our patience rests solidly on the full assurance that, no matter what comes next; Jesus has provided more than enough victory to put us over.”

The Bible is a revelation of the Promises of God that are available to each of us.

There are promises contained in the Word of God that address every human need and fear.

The thing that determines our experience in life is simply what we believe.

The quality of our lives is determined by our choices.

We make choices for our lives, either for life and blessing or death and cursing based on what we believe is in yours or your family’s best interest.

You create a belief system based on what you hear or have heard the most of throughout your life.

Romans 10:17 | NKJV (17) So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

We will begin by studying the principles of faith.

Romans 4:16-21 | NKJV Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all (17) (as it is written, “I HAVE MADE YOU A FATHER OF MANY NATIONS”) in the presence of Him whom he believed–God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; (18) who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “SO SHALL YOUR DESCENDANTS BE.” (19) And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. (20) He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, (21) and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.

Faith is being fully persuaded that the Word of God is true and that the promise is as good as yours.

Being fully persuaded is a pre-requisite to receiving the promise of God.

To begin to understand these principles of faith, we must back up to the foundation of your faith and that is hope.

Exodus 13:3-5 | NKJV And Moses said to the people: “Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out of this place. No leavened bread shall be eaten. (4) On this day you are going out, in the month Abib. (5) And it shall be, when the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, which He swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall keep this service in this month.

Leviticus 20:22-24 | NKJV (22) ‘You shall therefore keep all My statutes and all My judgments, and perform them, that the land where I am bringing you to dwell may not vomit you out. (23) And you shall not walk in the statutes of the nation which I am casting out before you; for they commit all these things, and therefore I abhor them. (24) But I have said to you, “You shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you to possess, a land flowing with milk and honey.” I am the LORD your God, who has separated you from the peoples.

God has high expectations for us as His children.

Psalms 8:4-6 | TPT Compared to all this cosmic glory, why would you bother with puny, mortal man or be infatuated with Adam’s sons? (5) Yet what honor you have given to men, created only a little lower than Elohim, crowned like kings and queens with glory and magnificence. (6) You have delegated to them mastery over all you have made, making everything subservient to their authority, placing earth itself under the feet of your image-bearers.

Psalms 40:5 | TPT O Lord, our God, no one can compare with you. Such wonderful works and miracles are all found with you! And you think of us all the time with your countless expressions of love—far exceeding our expectations!

1 Corinthians 2:9-10 | NLT (9) That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.” (10) But it was to us that God revealed these things by His Spirit. For His Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets.

Proverbs 23:18 | TPT Your future is bright and filled with a living hope that will never fade away.

Ephesians 3:20-21 | AMPC Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]– (21) To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen (so be it).

We must take the blueprint of God’s Word and begin to see that continually for our lives so that we can frame our world for tomorrow today!

  • Faith and Patience: The Power Twins – Part 1

Some of the material for these lessons comes from the book Faith and Patience: The Power Twins by Kenneth Copeland.

Hebrews 6:11-15 | TPT (11) But we long to see you passionately advance until the end and you find your hope fulfilled. (12) So don’t allow your hearts to grow dull or lose your enthusiasm, but follow the example of those who fully received what God has promised because of their strong faith and patient endurance. (13) Now when God made a promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater than himself, he swore an oath on his own integrity to keep the promise as sure as God exists! (14) So he said, “Have no doubt, I promise to bless you over and over, and give you a son and multiply you without measure!” (15) So Abraham waited patiently in faith and succeeded in seeing the promise fulfilled.

KCM – “The power of patience is a working power. When faith has a tendency to waver, it is patience that comes to faith’s aid to make it stand. The power of patience is necessary to undergird faith.

Numbers 13:25-33 | NKJV (25) And they returned from spying out the land after forty days.

Numbers 14:1-5 | NKJV (1) So all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night.

You have to change your expectation.

You must begin to frame the world of your tomorrow by what you see today and then take your faith and build it.

God has high expectations for us as His children.

Psalms 8:4-6 | TPT (4) Compared to all this cosmic glory, why would you bother with puny, mortal man or be infatuated with Adam’s sons? (5) Yet what honor you have given to men, created only a little lower than Elohim, crowned like kings and queens with glory and magnificence. (6) You have delegated to them mastery over all you have made, making everything subservient to their authority, placing earth itself under the feet of your image-bearers.

Psalms 40:5 | TPT (5) O Lord, our God, no one can compare with you.

Proverbs 23:18 | TPT (18) Your future is bright and filled with a living hope that will never fade away.

Ephesians 3:20-21 | AMPC (20) Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]– (21) To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen (so be it).

We must take the blueprint of God’s Word and begin to see that continually for our lives so that we can frame our world for tomorrow today!
